Title: Light House
Post by: troy_curtis on December 26, 2014, 01:01:31 am
I made a light house picture for my mother in law a few years ago. My wife has wanted one ever since. So this past summer I started playing with a design. I got most of it done and posted on here to have someone help me with the pattern. Spirit Horse finalized the pattern for me. I worked on it a bit here and a bit there.

This is the final project. I used 2 boards of blue pine. One for the sky and one for the water. I hand picked them out from an online store. The light house is Padauk and Maple. The boat is Satin and Purple Heart. The front land is Monkey Pod and the back land is Cherry.

I am not the best at intarsia, but I think this one turned out pretty nice. My wife got it for Christmas.

Looks lovely Troy and the colours are amazing!   wish we could get such woods over here..... if you do find any dealers they charge a fortune for very small pieces :(  as I'm still a beginner I need more practice before splashing out on expensive woods so will stick to the Oak/beech/Walnut/Birch?Mahogany and pine with the odd bit of Ash if i'm lucky .
I have also sent off for a Sanding Mop which i hope will improve my finished items, I went for a 180 grit for starters to see how good they are and will get different grades later.
Have a great Christmas and even better New Year
Cheers
Brian

Troy, very nice. I like the wood choices. Where did you get the blue pine?

Very nicely done, Troy,
Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

On a side note, I wouldn't expect you consider any changes to your wife's
lighthouse but, in the future you may consider glueing a piece of rope
(for nautical themes) or an oval frame similar to this http://intarsia.com/shop/patterns/sea-gull-palm/
Not meant as a criticism. Just a suggestion that may give a more finished appearance.
God Bless!
