General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: burned on etsy
« on: November 19, 2015, 08:47:40 pm »
Thanks Sheila and DW for the response. I don't sell a lot and do a lot of freebies. Just hit hard when I don't design much and when I spend a lot of time on a project creating the scroll picture, which takes this noob a long time, and the customer takes the picture and runs. I appreciate all the designers do and all the hard work put into their work. But if I do sell custom work I'll be in the same boat and have to charge ahead of time to weed out the lookers who don't really want anything.

Learned my lesson. Good thing it will only happen once.

Had a request for a portrait to be done. They sent me the picture, I worked it up to show them and bam. Haven't heard a peep from them. Work wasted. Guess I'll have to charge for mock ups that go towards the final product finish.  Anybody else experience this before?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Using spiral blades

when i first started using spirals i felt the same way. Just a slow go till you get how the movement should be. Around the thin parts its slow for me no matter how long i've been scrolling. One little hiccup could change the picture. :) Have fun!

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Tree Cookies
« on: July 18, 2015, 06:13:53 am »
Just cut down a 100' tree in my backyard, Honey Locust. I'd like to use it to scroll in.
1. Do i make vertical cookies or angled?
2. How do you preserve it from cracking?

Thanks for the help.

My company is holding a Golf tournament tomorrow and these two coaches will be attending. My company is giving them the plaques to thank them for showing up.

Here are the pics of the bottom of the sphere. The pencil is reference for size.  Took me awhile to find these pics.

used olsen for a long time but tried FD. Really like them. Went to woodcraft and picked up pegasus. Both FD and pegasus seem to hold up well.

Yes it was a little nerve racking cutting the sphere. One slip and i cut through the lines and some are close. But once you get into a rhythm into cutting it, it went easy. The hard parts were the very small lines at the top and bottom of sphere. I used a #2 spiral and a drill hole that just allowed the blade to go through. The bottom of the sphere took awhile too as there were many little sections that could easily break. I'll post that picture later.  Thanks for all the kind words. I was glad to get it done. Even happier that I was able to double stack, both with no broken pieces. Really happy.
