Very nice job.  Might I ask where do you get your lights or light kits from.

In a pinch I have commandeered the wax paper out of my wife's kitchen.  It seems to work well and is quick and easy.  I have also used it on my drill press and table saw.

Pattern Requests. / Hair Barrettes

Does anyone know of a place I can go to get patterns for hair barrettes and the clips to go with them.  I've got 3 granddaughters with birthdays coming up and thought I'd do something different to go along with the birthday card... many thanks in advance.

Looks great.  Be aware of high winds, I did one with a lady doing laundry and the other day we had some high winds and when I got home either she worked her arms right off or the wind damaged it.  It appears you are using small machine bolts for the pivots, I tried using small dowels and glued into place so I could paint over them and I think that might have been my problem.  Also if you want go look at the web site
azwoodman.com for some more patterns.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Where to cut first
« on: January 31, 2016, 05:37:34 am »
Jim, I was taught to cut the outside last in order to give the piece a little extra strength.  But if you have a lot of extra wood outside your pattern I don't see what it would hurt to cut a little bit of it away.   I have done patterns where it was recommended to cut the outside first.

Welcome to the forum Terry.  I am fairly new also and scroll when the weather and time lets me get to the garage.  Everybody here is talented and  the knowledge most of these people have has helped me a lot, so don't be afraid to ask questions.  Mr. Steve Good's other website has some great patterns to get you started.

Jim as far as the Navel Jelly, unless you have a large area to clean go sparingly with the jelly and give it time to work.  Then wipe it off with some old rags.  I had good luck with it but only have used it a couple of times.  I wouldn't use any water to clean your table off with otherwise you might be starting over removing new rust.  But anyway I am sure you know to wax it right away to keep anymore rust forming.

Welcome to the forum Danny, I too have read and learned more about this hobby from the good people here.  I don't often get the chance to use my saw but the things learned here and Steve's patterns make it a great hobby to be doing.

If they are just cosmetic stains you might try some Navel Jelly or WD-40 and then get a good wood or car wax and wax your table top.  I have used Navel Jelly with good luck that I had picked up at the hardware store.  Good Luck

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: wax and Tension
« on: January 05, 2016, 08:39:22 am »
Jim; I will wax my scroll saw once in awhile when the weather is good, saves on rust and cleans it up.  I also do it to my table saw and the table on my drill press.  But what works in a pinch is grab a piece of wax paper out of the kitchen(or the whole roll if your wife is not looking) rub it on your table top and it works great.  When done scrolling for even a little while I will take the blade clear out of the machine.  Delta says to take the tension off but I just remove it completely, in hopes of saving the tension system

Anybody have an idea on what to use to put together the movable parts of a whirly gig.  Nothing comes to mind which is not unusual for me but any help would be more than great.  Thanks in advance

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Which is better?

Mr Rapid Roger I did use the hot water trick and a drop or two of air tool oil the when it was heated up i used the pliers and screwdriver trick to pop it on there piece of cake when you know the tricks thank you.  Now as far as the 40-694 saw is concerned.  Damn I had to learn all over again how to use a scroll saw.  That cheap $100 dollar saw compared to the delta is beyond night and day.  Just to prove it to myself I took the two blades that came with the new saw and put one in the old saw and the other in the new saw, with a piece of 3/4 oak in hand I test cut on both saws.  Seriously amazing the difference, I found I have been missing a lot in quality.
