The Coffee Shop / Ornaments in Florida!
« on: December 18, 2012, 12:19:51 am »
When I got home tonight I had a package from Kepy, my secret Santa.  He sent not 1 but 4 beautifully done ornaments.  I have already snapped a picture with my cell phone, but it hasn't come through yet.  I should be able to post the picture tomorrow.

Thanks Kepy!
and thanks to Russ for running this exchange and Steve for giving us a home!

This is a steal for $100 if it runs well.  Doesn't give the size or whether it is variable speed.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Whirligig question
« on: July 31, 2012, 09:52:17 am »
Years ago I made several whirligigs.  They were cute, and I am thinking of making some again and I still have my patterns.  The only problem is that the Florida sun and humidity did them in in a relatively few years.  It is hard on both the paint and the wood.  What would you guys recommend for materials and paint to give them a longer life?

The Coffee Shop / on the adult side
« on: July 14, 2012, 08:26:05 pm »
Two women were playing golf. One teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole.
The ball hit one of the men. He immediately clasped his hands together at his groin, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in agony.
The woman rushed down to the man, and immediately began to apologize. "Please allow me to help. I'm a Physical Therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow me!" she told him.

'Oh, no, I'll be all right. I'll be fine in a few minutes,' the man replied. He was in obvious agony, lying in the fetal position, still clasping his hands at his groin.
At her persistence, however, he finally allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, loosened his pants and put her hands inside. She administered tender and artful massage for several long moments and asked, "How does that feel?"

"Feels great" he replied, "but I still think my thumb's broken."

The Coffee Shop / Golf balls
« on: May 02, 2012, 10:47:32 pm »
This old golfer had a habit of picking up golf balls he found on the course, and putting only the good ones in his pants pocket to re-sell to the proshops.  One day he loaded up his pockets with all his golf balls and got on a bus to make the rounds to see what he could sell.  As he entered a bus and walked to the back an elderly woman was obviously eyeing the lumps in his pants.  "Golf Balls" he said as he sat beside her.  In a moment she looked at him and asked " Is it as painfull as tennis elbow?"

General Scroll Saw Talk / Safety Third
« on: April 29, 2012, 11:05:08 pm »
Ok it is national safety week, and most woodworking sites you visit are plastered with posts on safety.  Steve Ramsey over at woodworkingformeremortals.com posted a link to a video blog by Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs fame and it struck a chord with me.  Take a minute and watch it.  It might change how you look at things.

This is a link to a scrollsaw video on the clocks made by the Bily brothers.  It shows their incredible work and life story and is worth viewing by anyone interested in scrolling.  I stumbled across this video on www.lumberjocks.com.

The Coffee Shop / marriage is like a card game
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:50:54 am »
I got this in an email.  It think it is cute, although I don't personally agree with the message:

Marriage is like a game of cards.  All it takes to get started is a diamond and a couple of hearts, but by the time the game is almost over you are looking for that club and a spade.

The Coffee Shop / short rant 2 - more on designer firewood
« on: January 30, 2012, 11:33:02 am »
Boy!  If you think you can produce some designer firewood on the scrollsaw, let me tell you it is nothing compared to working on box building with shaped dovetail or box joint joinery on a router table.  I now have turned some prime cherry and maple into good material for the scrollsaw because of re-sawing, planing it down to 3/8 of an inch and miss cutting box box joints and shaped dovetails.  It is all still usable for scrolling, but can't be cut again to fulfill the original purpose.  Talk about simple things making you feel stupid!

The Coffee Shop / Achieve inner peace
« on: January 02, 2012, 10:01:34 am »
Doctor Oz from tv said, that to have inner peace we should always finish things we start and we all could use more calm in our lives.
I looked around my house to find things I'd started & hadn't finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiuminun scriptins, an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how fablus I feel rite now. Sned this to all who need inner peas. An telum u luvum.
