« on: September 06, 2016, 12:21:51 pm »
Each year members of the “Woodworkers Of Whittier” club makes small toy cars throughout the year and then at their November meeting they are collected and passed on to local hospitals. They cars are given to small children helping them take their minds off their problems.

I still want to make about 25 more before the Nov. meeting. .

Glade to see Gray Beard back. I thought it's about time I start posting again.
I made this for a person that designs Necklaces and Hair Clips for a company that has distributors throughout the world.

The Coffee Shop / Surgeries
« on: May 17, 2014, 01:19:05 pm »
Sorry about not posting anything in the past several months. I?ve had a couple of Cornea transplants. The first one was November, last year and the second eye was done a couple weeks ago.  The first one turned out excellent and the second one is progressing good as far as I can tell.  I have an appointment Monday and will find out then if it all attached. I?ll get back to scrolling again in about another month, I hope.

In between surgeries I was kept busy filling a few Man-Caves.  I made seven Intarsias for the first person and when a friend of his saw them he had to have four for his wall and then another friend of theirs ordered two.  All of them were Intarsias of sporting and school related themes that I couldn?t post here on this forum.

As soom as I?m able, I have one sign to make for a church and then I?ll get back to making Intarsias I can post.  Looking forward to it.

Brag Forum / Survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing
« on: August 23, 2013, 12:29:37 pm »
A big thanks to RM Hayes and TD Painter for their help on making the portrait pattern I used making this project.
I used a combination of both of their patterns for the finished piece.

A group of fellow employees asked me to make something they could give this survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing when he retires, upon returning to California.

He is due to return sometime in September after spending over four months in a Boston hospital and a rehab facility where they, thankfully, saved both of his legs.

Pattern Requests. / Need help also
« on: July 29, 2013, 12:06:46 pm »
This is a picture of John Odom; he was close to the finish line at the Boston Marathon, waiting for his daughter to cross the finish line, when the bomb went off.  He would have lost both legs if it hadn?t for the quick action of a stranger and the EMT?s

He was the last survivor to leave a Boston hospital, but he hasn?t been able to go home to LA since and still has more time to spend in rehab before he can.

He was due to retire the week after the Marathon and will as soon as he?s able to travel home. I am making a plaque to celebrate his retirement and need help in making a fret type pattern to include in the plaque.

Thanks, Al

Intarsia / Firemen Rescue
« on: June 24, 2013, 02:55:30 pm »
Made from a photo of an ex Fireman that rescued a little boy from a burning house. His daughter has had the picture for years and wanted something more permanent to pass on. His daughter and son-in-law ordered the Intarsia to surprise him on Father?s Day.

I warned them ahead of time I couldn?t carve faces very good, which shows.
Picture is 16? X 20?

Intarsia / New Intarsia Question. Frame or no frame?
« on: December 04, 2012, 06:14:07 pm »
I'm making this Intarsia as a Christmas present and for one of the few times I'm undecided whether to put a frame around it or leave it as is and finish it.   I'm making it from a picture of their dog, a Pit Bull.

Help me out with some recommendations please.

Thanks, Al
