Title: Victorian Cross
Post by: cyclistjim on June 11, 2010, 01:07:00 am
This is the Victorian Cross I cut out from the Scrollsaw Holiday Issue. It is a series of pictures showing the beginning to end of the project. Made from red oak

Nice job! I may cut that one myself some time.
I did notice that you cut things exactly backward of the way I do it! I always cut the smaller inter cuts first, then the larger ones as I go, and then the outer part last. I find that things (especially on the outer edges) don't get broken off as easy and makes the whole project alot stronger for a longer time while you are cutting.
Just my two cents worth.
Good job anyway and I really do like that cross.

So how long did it take you to cut the entire project?  8)

It took 4 days about 2 hours each day to complete. I would drill about a dozen holes and then cut them out and rest. You make less mistakes if you keep your self from getting tired. I wish I had found this hobby before I needed glasses it would have been easier. But I would not have had the patience then so I guess it all equals out in the long run.

Good work Jim.   Thanks for showing the stages of completion.  You are exactly right, I think, had a tried to start scrolling when I was young I would not of had the patience the hobby requires.  Although my bifocals sure are a hassle :)  Thank you for sharing your work.

Eight hours total, thats pretty good. Allot of cuts. I agree about spreading the time out. I do the same thing. Makes it more enjoyable.
