Ornament wood

I was in HD the other day and found some cedar fence boards in their reject box for 51 cents.  They had some damage but not much and after running them through the planer to 5/16", I now have some wood all ready for ornaments.

I never miss the cull bin at HD or lowes.  Sometimes you can even get their prime poplar, redoak and cedar.  One end of the board will be damaged - they split it and sell it for cull.

I check the bin every time I go in. Usually once a week. I have found some good buys in there too.

I was unaware they had a cull bin.  I'll ask about it next time I'm in town for sure!

    I have a friend that had cut down a Red Oak last year. He brought me in some slabs of it yesterday. I don't know how many board feet he gave me, but I was extremely happy. He told me that he was working on some Cherry. I can't wait. I love working with it. Dave

There are great deals to be found there. But not all of them have cull bins. I was told it is up to the manager of the store. I have 2 home depots near me but only 1 has the cart. Mike

I was the power tool specialist at Home Depot.  The cull bin may or may not be there, but damaged wood goes down the chute.  Any time you see a damaged board - find the lumber assosiate and ask if they will cull it.  Chanced are - he will - unless he is just too lazy to do his job.  There are a few of those.

Be careful when using the ceder fence boards as they are green wood, they are not kiln dried. Green wood likes to crack and warp when it dries.
