honor guard @ funeral
« on: January 21, 2012, 02:37:26 pm »
I was in the honor guard today for a 100 yr. old soldier from our Am. Legion post.  After we policed the brass it was given to the family.  Has anyone ever done or seen a pattern to display the shells? I think it would be a great way to remember our soldiers/family members.
I love the smell of saw dust in the morning.

Never seen one, but seems like an excellent idea!  Hopefully someone more creative than me comes up with something for you!

I haven't seen a Pattern for the Brass, but I attended a funeral two weeks ago where the Honor Guard presented the Son with the Flag and Spent Brass. The ceremony was very touching.

Here's a Picture if someone cares to make a pattern.

I think it would make a beautiful Intarsia.

Hi, You could make a cross out of them with a cap badge in the middle and inscription at the bottom, something like this......Paul

The primers can be punched out of FIRED brass with a pin that will fit through the flash hole inside of the case.
Or if you know someone who reloads they may have a decapper that will fit it.
Not hard to do, then you could thread a wire through it to hang it up. A knot on one end to keep it from pulling through and a loop on the other.
Alternatively you can just drill a hole through the primer, but it does have to be a fired case.
