The Coffee Shop / Help-Help-Help
« on: August 09, 2011, 10:41:44 pm »
Just got home from my Am. Legion meeting, a guy brought in a b&w pic of the USS New Jersey w/crew, including him in the pic. He had it "rolled up". It's 30"X10" I said you gotta get this in a frame...well b/4 I knew it I volunteered to make the frame. I have never really done that b/4, just for myself(no critiquing there).  I think I can do the frame ok, though I would appreciate any suggestions, but the pic is already 65 yrs. old what should I use for a backing, the pic is in really good shape considering, only a couple minor tears. I have heard cardboard isn't good because of the acid? or does that really matter. Last time I volunteered I had to change the tire of the squadron commanders truck...HELP

Pattern Requests. / French Horn pattern
« on: August 06, 2011, 06:14:03 pm »
My wife loves to play the horn, we went to the mid-west scrollsaw show friday and she couldn't find a pattern for a french horn, I would love to surprise her with one, haven't decided to do it as a plaque or maybe inlaid on a jewelry box.  Any help will be appreciated - thanks.  Pete

Pattern Requests. / pickup truck key chain
« on: May 25, 2011, 12:20:08 pm »
Bought a pickup the other day but the key for it looks just like the one for my car, would like to find a key chain that looks like a 2-door ford ranger with the extended area for the jump seat but hey beggars can't be choosers, any truck will do. Thanks Pete

The Coffee Shop / Any router people out there??
« on: May 09, 2011, 04:31:09 pm »
I bought a Porter-Cable dove-tail jig for myself for Christmas and it's finally warm enough to learn how to use it in my garage/shop. Admitting that I have an IQ well below genius I just found out that this jig takes only a 1/2" collet and of coarse mine is 1/4". Subtracting a few more digits from my IQ - I didn't save the receipt. Assuming there is no way out of my self dug hole - anyone want a real good deal on a dove-tail jig??  :-\ :'(

General Scroll Saw Talk / my process seems flawed...
« on: April 28, 2011, 12:43:59 pm »
I cover the wood w/blue painters tape, spray pattern w/glue (Elmer's craft bond spray adhesive) , attach pattern to tape after about one minute, use clear packing tape to cover -  my problem is half the time the pattern lifts off the blue tape and I'm struggling to hold the pattern so I can follow the lines. Is it the glue? I've tried attaching it after 15 sec. and up to 3 min. but I often get the same "pattern flapping" :-\ :-\ :'(

General Scroll Saw Talk / easter egg crosses
« on: April 03, 2011, 05:45:08 pm »
Has any one tried Steve's egg/crosses? I'm having a "dickens" of time (does anyone ever use "dickens" anymore) getting the egg centered so the cross comes out even/centered, can't use a broken/miscut egg for much else than firewood

General Scroll Saw Talk / letter/number stencils
« on: March 16, 2011, 05:14:55 pm »
Where do you guys go for your stencils for scrolling? I used microsoft word and printshop but neither gave me what I needed, I like the way Steve does it with lines to follow instead of solid black letters, if I don't have LINES to follow I'm all over the place :-[

Thanks Pete

The Coffee Shop / A friends projects at Smithsonian
« on: March 09, 2011, 10:28:48 am »
This girl went to H.S. with my daughter, these - though not scroll saw projects, she used a laser  - could be seeds for great ideas, and pretty darn neat.  She is having some displayed at the Smithsonian.  Go to christyoatesdesign.com

The Coffee Shop / Celibacy...
« on: February 26, 2011, 04:41:56 pm »
Celibacy can be a choice in life, or a condition imposed by circumstances...

While attending a Marriage Weekend, Frank and his wife Ann listened to the instructor declare, "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other".  He addressed the men, "Can you name and describe your wife's favorite flower?"

Frank leaned over, touched Ann's arm gently and whispered, "Gold Medal-All Purpose, right?"

And thus began Frank's life of celibacy...
