Thank you,

Me too.  I just purchased a bandsaw box book.  Got my new blade in and have some blanks glued up.

Steve from Woodworking for Mere Mortals has a great video on how to make bandsaw boxes. He also has a simple plan you can follow.

I have the book "sculpted band saw boxes" by Lois Keener Ventura. Lots of good information and some beginner types as well as some more advanced types of projects.

Thank you. Enjoyed the instructive video, and will keep the lumberjocks site. Finally got smart and checked the library. They have both of Ventura's books. Her earlier one is now selling for over $70 used, with no new ones, so hang on to them.

If you look through the projects on the lumberjocks site you can find lots of examples of band saw boxes. Once you have made a couple they become a little easier, and you can copy ideas you like from others.

Pat, so glad you asked the question.  I had no idea about doing a box like that.  I am going to give it a try for sure.
Mrsn, thanks for the great video site.

I really enjoy making bandsaw boxes.  I have made them in many shapes including clamshells, dolphins, hearts, and others.  I have also made them from branch sections including the bark on the sides.  They can be a lot of fun!

I would love to see some pics of your rendition of a dolphin bandsaw box.

i thought that was the point of the ban saw boxes it does not need a plan per say just an understanding of the process and a willingness to try some thing that is out of most peoples comfort zone (a box that is not a square but how lol)

Dunk,

I gave the dolphin bandsaw box to a sisterinlaw for a Christmas present, so I don't have a picture of it any longer.  I will try to attach the file which has the pattern I used for the box.

Emailed the site to my brother in law today and he is already gluing boards together to give it a try.

Bill,
Thanks, for the extra trouble.  Is the entire interior the drawer?

No problem dunk.  I didn't use a drawer.  I cut out the outside shape, then cut a thin slab off the front, then cut the inside shape.  then I cut a thin slab off each end of the center piece (which had been removed).  The thin slab becomes the box top with one of the center cutoffs glued to it so it will hold position, and the remaining cutoff is glued in as a bottom to the box.  Then I flock the inside.  No drawer, just a removable top.  I made it out of some 8/4  Mahogany scrap I had laying around.  Pretty simple really.  I tend to make more bandsaw boxes with tops than with drawers.
