General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Inkscape for portrait patterns

EIEIO,

That is very good information! I will play with that and see if I can figure it out. Also, your idea of watching the pattern forum and trying to create patterns for people is a great idea. Thanks so much for your help!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Inkscape for portrait patterns
« on: August 16, 2016, 02:24:24 pm »
I apologize if this question has already been asked a hundred times, but I am looking for a program to create portrait patterns. I am completely new and out of my element regarding portrait patterns so that is why I am here seeking advice. Would Inkscape be a good program to create portrait patterns or would Gimp be a better choice? Honestly, I would appreciate any help! I am not looking to become a professional portrait designer. I just want to import pictures of my grandchildren into a program and perhaps create a keepsake for both them and myself. Thanks!

DW,

Your work is always so skillfully completed. It's obvious that you put a lot of thought into your projects because they all are so very well done.

Your State of Texas Welcome Sign with the intricate inlay work is very, very nice. I especially like the shark scene because two of my sons are certified divers. I will have to show them this piece in hopes they will stay alert when diving. Thanks for sharing, Seadog, you did a great job on both projects.

Ray, it's easy to see the love that went in to this project. The box joints turned out very nice. Your skill level definately shows in the butterfly. I'll bet the keepsakes that she puts in her new box will pale in comparison to the joy she feels every time she looks at her box that you made for her.

Merlin,
This piece is an example of beautiful craftsmanship. You must have nerves of steel to be able to cut such a delicate project, but I'm sure it's just a combination of patience and skill which you definitely have. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy this completed project.

Brian,
You have a keen eye for detail which comes as no surprise. I love the colors, they all flow together. Your detailing on the wing is very nice. It's a beautiful  piece. Keep up the great work.
