Intarsia / My first Intarsia
« on: May 08, 2011, 11:09:55 am »
I just completed my first Intarsia project (first of many...I hope!). It is a pattern designed by Kathy Wise. I would appreciate all constructive comments, good or bad! I now realize that I greatly need to improve on my cutting abilities before I can truly consider myself an Intarsianist. I am definitely not in the same league as many of the Intarsia Artist who present their work on this board, but I will continue to try and improve.

I completed this project just in time for Easter. This is a design from Sheila Landry. If you enjoy the outcome then the credit goes to the designer.

Computer questions / Corel Draw
« on: March 29, 2011, 09:03:34 pm »
I'm hoping someone can help me in getting started with Corel Draw. Is it still possible to buy an older version of this software? I would rather start with an older version so I can use Steve's Tutorials to better understand the design process. I currently don't have the software and would greatly appreciate any help in learning the best way to get started.

Brag Forum / Horse and Wagon
« on: March 27, 2011, 08:17:18 pm »
This project was featured in ScrollSaw Magazine 2009 Holiday Issue. I slightly changed the design so it wouldn't be just a holiday piece. I wanted to fill the wagon with candy and use it as a centerpiece on the dining room table throughout the year.

If anyone is interested in this pattern here is the link to obtain this particular back issue:

General Scroll Saw Talk / Hollywood can keep their movie stars...
« on: March 13, 2011, 10:44:31 am »
Hollywood can keep their movie stars and rock stars because we have our own. We may not make a million dollars for each project, but the thanks we receive when we give away one of our works of art is priceless. We may not have a TV psychologist, but we do have people who are more than willing to give advice and share their wealth of information just for the asking. We may not have their Hollywood dress designers, but we do have our designers who create beautiful patterns which are brought to life by people from all over the world. We may not be on prime time, but we are here anytime. There are countless posts which you can view at your leisure. We may not have their fifteen minutes of fame, but the pieces we create can last a lifetime. The names of those being referred to is unimportant you all know who you are. If you think about it we truly do have it all. You just need to log on and explore.

Brag Forum / Just another Tissue Box
« on: March 10, 2011, 07:49:47 am »
I made this box with a Walnut base and Maple top with a clear Poly finish. I accented the back with flowers. The front depicts "Welcome". I designed the box to be used in an office location on someone's desk or on a front counter.

General Scroll Saw Talk / The things I like about this forum
« on: March 04, 2011, 07:58:47 pm »
I like this forum because you don?t have to be a master woodworker or expert scroller to feel as though you belong here. It doesn?t matter whether you?ve just completed your first project and decided to share it or you?ve been at this for 30 years. Everyone is treated with a level of respect and beginners are supported and given the encouragement they need to go back and start that second project. It?s refreshing to know that the more experienced people haven?t forgotten where they started. They know the difficulties everyone faces when they first begin and it?s made obvious by their willingness to help others.
This is a place where people from all over the world gather to share their thoughts and projects with others who share the same common interest. I can?t help but wonder if Steve knew the impact that creating this site would have on so many people. It doesn?t matter whether you?re young or old, dude or dudette or where you?re from. Steve has found the one common link that can bring people together?it?s called ?sawdust?. He may have just found the answer to world peace?Steve you?re a genius.

Brag Forum / Is it too early for a Mothers Day Project?
« on: March 02, 2011, 07:49:44 am »
I hadn't planned on making any more tissue boxes, but a friend asked if I would make one for her mother for "Mothers Day" so how could I refuse. She asked if I could include the word mother on the front. But I decided to be a little more daring and include some additional scroll work. I really like this scroll work stuff :-)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Replacement bulb for DW788 Work Light
« on: February 24, 2011, 12:00:31 pm »
I am in need of a replacement bulb for my Dewalt DW788 work light. Apparently, Dewalt doesn't sell replacement bulbs which is a 25Watt Type S. I was hoping someone else would have some info about a replacement that they may have used in place of this factory bulb. Any info would be appreciated. I enjoy having some light, but my wife says it isn't necessary because I am always in the dark anyway...not sure what she means by that!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Hegner Scroll Saw
« on: February 17, 2011, 07:55:56 am »
I apologize if this topic has previously been discussed, but I would like some information about Hegner's Scroll Saw. I am curious if anyone uses this particular saw and if so what is your opinion of it. I realize that it is quite a bit more expensive than other popular models, i.e. Dewalt. I would like to know whether the quality and ease of use is worth the extra cost.  Also, what are the good points and bad points. Any input will be appreciated. Oh! Just in case there is any doubt I would be getting the Hegner...not my son!

Brag Forum / Tissue Box
« on: February 06, 2011, 08:51:28 pm »
I recently asked for help and advice on how to scroll cut names in some Tissue Boxes that I was making for friends of my wife. She wanted to personalize them and I couldn't think of any better way than to insert their names, but didn't quite know how to do it. I received many helpful comments and suggestions. I realize that this isn't quite a scroll saw project, but I am just getting involved in this art and so I just wanted to display the final result. I hope that over time and as my skill level improves I can display a complete scroll saw creation. I'm certain that with all the generous people that make up this forum I can find the answers to any problems that I might encounter.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Help for Newbie
« on: February 04, 2011, 08:09:57 am »
My wife has asked me to make tissue boxes for her friends at work. It will basically be a shell consisting of four sides and a top which can be dropped over the tissue box. She also asked me to personalize each box by using my scroll saw to cut their names in the front of the box. The problem is I'm having difficulty in finding a program or means to creating a pattern for their names. I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but if it wouldn't be too much trouble could someone please point me in the right direction. I truly enjoy this forum and all the contributions that everyone shares.
