MDF Board for Scroll Saw Projects?
« on: October 02, 2019, 04:30:47 pm »
I would like to try using MDF board for some Christmas Scroll Saw projects.

Suggestions as to use and Yes/No as to it being a good material to use?

Thanks ~ Rich

I have use 1/4 inch and it is okay.  Tough on blades.

When you paint you have to seal well first as the edges absorbs paint a lot more than the top.

Some times you get some fuzzies so you clean up.

Most people I have heard talk about MDF really dislike it because the fibers/saw-dust of MDF
is much more hazardous than most other woods. Also, as Don mentioned, it does not accept
stain or paint as well as most wood.
I use MDF occasionally for backers because it is cheaper than Baltic Birch.
God Bless! Spirithorse

Thanks for the information and help.  I guess I will give it a try to see how it works for me.

On a 1/2 thick MDF board, what blade would work best?

Thanks Again ~ Rich

I am a die-hard Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse user so I would probably start with a UR-5.  If tight turns I would try a #3.

Any Reverse blade would work.

Don't forget to wear a dust mask.
