Brag Forum / Paint Filling Station.
« on: August 17, 2016, 11:05:19 pm »
G’day All,
Well its been an up and down battle in the workshop over the last few months, I’ve sat there at times looking at all my power tools and running ideas through me head on how I can make things a little safer to use so that I don’t get my trembling hands tangled up in places where ones hand/hands should not normally be.

The main problem is I have to use the power tool/tools to create my safety jigs with so that I can use that power tool safer, sounds crazy but I’ve got several jigs on the go at present and only work on them when my trembling hands are not too bad.

I have finished one jig that I hope is going to allow me to mix my paint, thinners and cleaners for my airbrush. As you can see from the image it is quite a simple set up made from 16mm and 12mm ply and the hole is 60mm in diam. While I aint used it yet I’m confident I can get my mixtures into my small plastic bottles without shakin’ the contents all over the place.

As the paint quantities used in me airbrush are quite small the bottles I use are only 100mm and 250mm, thus the days of being able to pour my paint into them easily are now gone I hope this is gunna work. Plus I buy my paints now in 250mm pots and it will be a case of taking the lid off and placing it upside down in the funnel and gettin' it all into the bottle rather than down the sides. So when I get a reasonable tremble free day I'm gunna get to and put me creation into practice.

I guess many of you maybe wondering what my airbrushing skills are like with the PD tremors, at this stage pretty darn messy but I'm workin' on that side of things.

Kev.

G'day All,
The last few days I been house bound as approaching bad weather was effecting me.
Last Feb 2015 we were hit side on by Cyclone Marcia which left our property a little worse
for wear. In one day we got 113.5mm of rain that for us was a big deal. Since then we've had
very little rain and our dam a few meters from our house has long since dried up. But yesterday
we received the biggest daily rain fall since Feb of 2015 - a massive down pour of 46.5mm.

Not much but is great news for us here :) long way to go yet before this drought breaks but who
knows could be the start of better things to come  ::) Sun is shinning from a cloudless sky and I'm
heading to the shed to have a play with me scroll saw  ;D

General Scroll Saw Talk / Diode Lighting Of Scroll Saw Creations.
« on: June 10, 2016, 10:55:37 pm »
G'day All,
I have seen some wonderful scroll saw creations that have been turned into Night Lights and Wall Hangings and can not seem to find anything on the internet about how these creations are lit up. I take it that rather than use an ordinary house hold light fixture these scroll saw works of art must use things like Diodes that don't create a great amount of heat. While I have a very long way to go in creating such a creation I'd like to learn how these creations are lit up. Hopefully some of you may have created such a wall hanging or night light and would like to share with me what knowledge you have.

G'day All,
This April coming will be three years since I last was here, much has changed in my life since then, not only have I gotten older but I have been diagnosed with PD and was wondering if there is any others here in the same boat as I now find myself in who can share with me problems they face with scroll sawing with PD.

The Coffee Shop / I'm Still On The Green Side Of The Grass
« on: April 14, 2013, 10:11:13 am »
G?day all,
Well it?s been a little over twelve months since I joined up and was looking forward to learning from you all this woodworking called Intarsia. Things were looking good,  my new scroll saw arrived and I did manage to get in a little practise before health issues building up over several years finally put a stop to me going near power tools. I?ve kept an eye on the forum enjoying the many projects being done and shared with all. While having all manner of tests for many, many months I was finally told in February of this year that I had Graves Disease. Now Graves Disease I had never known much of and Graves Disease to me was what happened to us all eventually when we stopped breathing and went to our grave.
Some of you may know of it or of some one with it. Its some thing one can?t hide unfortunately and the locals who know of my plight tell of some pretty crazy stories about family or friends who they know with it.  If I had my choice ?I?d love to swap it for something a little less debilitating?.

While I?ve been told it can not be cured I?m lead to believe by my specialist that the medications lined up on our dinning room table will in time allow me to function pretty well with it (when they get the levels right).
I haven?t be idle far from it, while I haven?t played with one single bit of wood for many months I have been adding to my collection of tools that I think I?m going to need. My Dremel collection and attachments are many fold now along with many chisels, files and other equipment that I think will come in handy. My neighbour from the property next door who was helping me with the building of my new work shed two years ago is pushing on without my help on days that he has some spare time. He will get there eventually and hopefully I?ll get to do a little of this Intarsia that you all enjoy so much and that interests me greatly. So everyone, I?m still here on the green side of the grass, take care all. :)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Setup and practising
« on: April 11, 2012, 07:49:03 am »
G'day all, well our property has now been sun baked after our heavy rain and the mud's gone. I've built a scroll saw table plus a wooden cover for when it's not in use to keep the mud fly's out. My biggest problem here is mud fly's that like to build nests in my electric drills etc. Brought a small bit of 6mm ply, drew a small horse on it. Tried to let the blade do the work but being a little heavy handed the horse ended up without a tail, a caved in forehead and missing one front leg. I think I'm cutting on too lower speed and I've gotta learn to let the blade do the work rather than having my hands pushing. It'll come in time but thus far I am a little worried about me fingers. Might be a small blade but it wouldn't take much to nip a finger off. Don't hold your breath all, gunna be sometime before I make something that's worth showing, after all Roman wasn't built in a day. Cheers all..... Kevy.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Did I Make The Right Choice
« on: March 19, 2012, 04:04:42 am »
G'day Everyone.
Before joining the scrollsaw workshop community I'd been looking at a number of different models. To help me make up my mind I chewed up many gigabytes and sleepless hours looking at forums hell west and crookered. I started looking namely at el cheapo's because I don't know how long my interest in scrollsawing was gunna last. It didn't take long to realise that to take the best shoot at learning and producing reasonable work I'd need to look a little bit higher up the range. My final three saw's were a Ryobi ESW1240, Dewalt DW788 and the Excalibur 21.

By last Saturday arvo I had after hours of reading scrollsaw forums managed to scratched out the Ryobi ESW1240.
The availability of spare parts was of concern to me and the last two on my list appeared to be well covered in that area pretty good here in Australia. Youtube video's I found helpful and this morning after a restless nights sleep I placed my order and my new machine should be here mid next week.
Oh what have I done......................lol.

Introduce Yourself. / G'day Everyone
« on: March 16, 2012, 10:48:36 am »
As you can see I go by the name of 'Erewhon' but my given name is Kevin - "Kevy' - and why on earth I think I can do what many of you here do I dunno. I live in Central Queensland Australia on a bush covered 30 Acre Property that the wife and I share with our native wildlife. I'm about to turn 61 Years and have the itch to do something else rather than cut grass, fight the odd bush fire and worry if our dam 30 meters away from the house is going to overflow again and attempt to wash us away. Already I've down loaded Steve's key chain program, after watching his you tube video I think I've already had my first failure cause I cant print the type of pattern he used in his clip. Anyways, I don't even own a scroll saw as yet and I'm also in need of some basic wood working tools so I've got time to work it out. For the mean time I'll read as much as I can here and some where down the track I'll eventually get started. I trust I'll get to know many of you in time and you can help me when ever I'm stuck on something. Pleasure to meet You All ..... Regards Kevy.
