Brag Forum / Happy Easter Cross
« on: March 30, 2013, 11:53:24 pm »
He is Risen! It has been about 3 to 4 weeks since I was able to get out and do some work. Been job hunting a lot also was sick for about 4 days. Went out today and worked to make this cross for my wife to give to her secret sister at church tomorrow. There are a few cuts that really depend on careful cutting (and a lot of prayer) but the end result was pretty good. Now my wife wants one for her.

For all my friends and family here in the SWC, I hope you all have a good and happy Easter. I know perhaps some of you may not be Christian, but my wish is that you think some on the value of this day. Have a good and blessed day.

The Coffee Shop / Just checking in to say hi
« on: March 18, 2013, 03:40:18 am »
Not sure if anyone missed me lately. I have been off for a few weeks. Havent been feeling great and I lost my job so I have been job hunting most the time. Hope to get out in the shop and make something. I miss my scroll work, but the saw dust wont help with my sinus allergy that I have been struggling with for past 3 weeks. Anyway, just on to see how all my scroll friends have been.

The Coffee Shop / Birthday Balloons.
« on: March 03, 2013, 11:33:39 pm »
About 4 months ago I got the idea to buy a lot of balloons (142) and put something inside each one (money, candy, hair ties) and then when my wife was out I would blow....and blow....and bloooow up each balloon. So today for her birthday I had my mother call after church asking for my help. I sent my wife, Sherry, ahead of me to her mom's for dinner. Then I got to work. An hour and a half later I had quite a pile of balloons. At her mom's I had to tell her the bad news that after helping my mother with moving something I forgot to grab my gifts for her. Well, after dinner I beat her home and had the camera ready. Tomorrow it will go up on youtube to show how fast she could pop all them balloons.

The Coffee Shop / The Life of Man
« on: February 22, 2013, 04:10:59 am »
On the first day, God created the dog and said, sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this I will give you a life span of twenty years.

The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?"

And God said that it was good.

On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."

The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?"

And God again said that it was good.

On the third day, God created the cow and said, "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years."

The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?"

And God agreed it was good.

On the fourth day, God created humans and said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years."

But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?"

"Okay," said God, "You asked for it."

So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as a public service. If you are looking for me I will be on the front porch....

Brag Forum / Easel to hold the birds
« on: February 21, 2013, 08:36:25 pm »
I showed my birds project last week. I stack cut 3 of them. I made one with a 3/4 in walnut to hang on the wall. The other two I put a thin bb back painted black. This week I made the easel to put it on. This one is for my wife's secret sister at church.

Brag Forum / Stack Cutting Gone Good
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:35:30 pm »
Well, I had a bad experience with my first stack cutting project (over Christmas). Then I managed to make that project work. Today I did an even bigger project and managed to stack cut 3 of this design. One I am putting on Tropical Walnut. One is on a BB painted black. The 3rd is waiting to be put on some background. Over all 3 for 1 cutting. I am pleased with this.

I made this word art for my wife's Aunt. It is painted white (they have dark panel walls). It was made out of 3/4 Bass Wood. Cut real easy. I need to file off some wood spurs and finish painting it.

Computer questions / Trouble logging in
« on: February 18, 2013, 01:07:21 am »
Has anyone else had trouble logging in lately? I came on tonight and it said my account did not exist. I had to keep trying and reset my pass. It was kind of odd.

The Coffee Shop / Hate being sick
« on: February 07, 2013, 11:56:02 pm »
I had a good friend die this past week. I took Friday off so I can attend his funeral. I figure once the funeral is over I will have some time left in the day to do some work in the shop. I work 2 jobs and most nights I don't have time to work. Tonight I was free to do whatever I wanted. Well, this morning at my day job I started feeling bad. By noon I had a migraine headache. By the time I got home (an hour late) My head was pounding so horribly bad. So all I could do tonight is take some medication and head off to bed. Even now my head is very tender so I more than likely wont be working in the shop tomorrow. I sure hate being sick. =(

The Coffee Shop / The Best Thing Ever
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:10:43 pm »
Nothing better than winning a few million dollars and hanging out on a beach in Hawaii, but next to that getting free tools or cabinets is pretty good too. I got a free cabinet that will also work as a base for one of my scroll saws. Did I say it was free? Free!! Okay, it isn't like I won a million dollars, but it was still pretty good.

General Scroll Saw Talk / The baskets from Colombia
« on: February 02, 2013, 01:53:04 pm »
Steve posted a video of the man from Colombia, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggiZLLzdPRA&feature=share&list=LLJ9ULbkM5aamGVxVV8JdtOg This video is worth watching. It is only 6 min long. He is free cutting this basket. It has no real sound other than the saw cutting. I would love to get more details on this. What angle he cuts with. I love the concept behind this art work.

Brag Forum / My First Box
« on: January 24, 2013, 08:51:29 pm »
I love seeing boxes people make. I have always wanted to make one from wood. (I do make some pretty fancy ones from paper with the art of origami) So, here is my first box. I used one of Steve Good's patterns and added the Jesus Cross I always make. It turned out pretty good. I used Poplar for the box and BB for the bottom and top. The cross is a piece of oak I happened to have.

The Coffee Shop / Forget Guns, Get Nailed.

With all the talk about banning guns going around I think Dewalt has the perfect solution. With this being a tool kind of page I though many of you cold appreciate their solution.

Pattern Requests. / Small Clock Patterns from Steve's Pattern page
« on: January 19, 2013, 02:56:28 am »
I was looking at Steve Goods pattern page and saw a selection of clocks. They have one complete pattern per printed page. The thing is these are small when printed. Does anyone here know how much I should increase them to get a proper sized clock. Also, would like to know what size clock to buy for them. I was thinking about making the clock with the sail boat and clouds.
