Ok, I was scouring the internet for ideas for Thanksgiving. I saw a design similar to the one I drew. Anyway...I drew this up and made them. Tomorrow I will make a base and put them back to back for a napkin holder.

I have been pretty busy for the past few months. Tried my hand at a new career. The company was good....the product is too....but couldnt make the job work. So much time working hard. Today I went out to my shop and did a little thinking and a little cutting. This was something I missed. The end result no work...no money...but a halfway decent project completed.

Brag Forum / Design for a Box Lid
« on: August 22, 2013, 12:00:07 am »
I work for an insurance company called American Income Life. Our company logo is a circle with AIL in the middle. I tried this as my first attempt for a box lid design. I think I want to redo it and make the AIL done all in one wood color, maybe a white wood with the circle being the 2 darker colors.

The Coffee Shop / Snoring Wife
« on: July 13, 2013, 01:00:39 am »
A man goes to his doctor and says, "I need something for my wife."

The doctor asks, "What do you mean you need something for your wife?"

He says, "Well Doc, her snoring really bothers me a lot."

The Doctor replies, "Well if it bothers you but she is sleeping so well then maybe you just need some ear plugs."

The man then says, "No, you don't understand. Her snoring doesn't just bother me it bothers a lot of other people."

"Really," Replies the doctor. "Is her snoring really that loud it keeps other people up?"

"No, Doc," He says. "It isn't such a bad thing that her snoring keeps other people awake. The problem is they can't hear me talk over it when I am preaching."

Brag Forum / First Christmas Ornaments
« on: July 06, 2013, 11:38:11 pm »
Earlier today I took a break from my studies and taped 5 BB boards together. I set up 5 Ornament Patterns to be cut. This is my first one cut out. I will carefully sand the delicate wood tomorrow or the next day. I might paint these, but probably will just let them remain the natural color. If I don't paint them I will just use some oil to preserve them.

Only got 4 of the 5, the bottom most board had a snap on the star when I was cutting it. Oh well, I figure it cost 27 cents each to make 5. So still a good job for 34 cents each for 4.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Getting Ready for Christmas
« on: July 06, 2013, 10:24:37 pm »
I have been working on passing the Arizona State License for Life Insurance Sales. It is a bear of a license to get. My study break was getting ready for making Christmas Ornaments. I am going to stack cut these 5 patterns. I have 5 BB 1 ft sq boards taped together. The smallest ornament in the center is for my wife to use with Christmas Wreathes she makes and sells. I will paint these all white except the Nativity Scene which I will probably leave natural.

Good news is I got a new job finally. Will be working to sell Supplemental and Life Insurance to the family members of Union workers here in Arizona. I have been looking for a good sales job and so far things look like they will be good for this one. The only downside is the lack of time from now on to work with my wood. I am sure I will manage to find time somehow. Thanks for all who have been praying for me on this need.

The Coffee Shop / Happy Father's Day
« on: June 15, 2013, 02:47:41 am »
For all you who have children....Happy Father's Day. I have not been blessed with any of my own, but my father is in town visiting from San Antonio. I made him a few ducks which he will get tomorrow. Have been making and mailing him gifts from my new hobby. Had a great complement from him today. I have never been a tool or fix it kind of guy. Not been much at making things. My dad told me today he is proud of the work I have been doing. It was pretty nice to hear him say that about something I made. Well I hope he likes his new baby ducks

As for the rest of you fathers...have a great time this weekend with your children.

Made this one today. Trying out some new projects for my fall sale. I think I like this one and stack cutting makes it easy and fast to make. I just put some oil on this to give it a stained look. The oil shows some glue spots I need to sand a bit better. Once I re-sand it I will apply a final finish. I made this out of some 1/2 in soft maple.

The Coffee Shop / Williams, AZ
« on: June 01, 2013, 07:14:55 pm »
Taking my wife on a 3 day camping/fishing trip up to Williams, AZ for our 19th Anniversary. Williams is a nice little town on the old Route 66. A lot of tourist stop in there on the way to the Grand Canyon. There are a lot of little shops. We go up there a few times a year. Love looking in the shops and getting ideas for wood working projects. We will do our share of fishing, but also some good browsing of the the shops.

And before anyone thinks they cannot believe I would take my wife fishing for an anniversary, yes, she loves fishing. We went up to Williams for our honeymoon and for our first 4 anniversaries. Trout, diced potatoes and corn on the cob all cooked on a campfire. That is good cooking. =)

Brag Forum / Yard Duck or Afac!
« on: May 16, 2013, 10:12:59 pm »
My dad's birthday was May 5th. He lives in Texas while I am still here in Arizona. I decided to make a gift for him. Recently he put in a huge flower bed in his yard. So I decided to make him this duck for it. My wife comes home from work to find me painting it in our kitchen on the floor. She asks why I am painting in the kitchen. My response, "It is 101 outside in my shop." I dont mind going out to cut wood but wanted the cool ac when painting it. Once done I had to try it out by putting it in our yard. Looks good, now my wife wants one for the yard. Oh..did I say one? She wants one along with the baby chicks. She must have been reading my scroll saw magazine to know there were baby chicks to go with it. Well guess I will be busy working in the shop. =)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Paper cutting
« on: April 06, 2013, 10:40:54 pm »
I am thinking about doing some scroll saw designs cut out of paper and framed. I have seen this done before and like the idea. Not sure if anyone here has done this. If so and you have ideas or suggestions on it please let me know. I am getting an exacto knife set from a friend tomorrow. It has lots of different blades in it. So thought I'd have some fun trying this.
