Ultra Fine Sanding solution....FYI

Dan has suggested using an old 'paper' grocery bag as a finish sanding material for Satin and semi-gloss finishes.
I was downstairs last night and didn't feel like going up to get a bag out of the garage and tried something else that seems to work just as well.

I grabbed a "cone type" unbleached coffee filter and wrapped it around a small scrap of wood and it did the job quite well.

Cool tip GB! Great for those that cant get the brown paper grocery bag. Unfortunately, our coffee maker has a permanent filter so we don't use paper filters.

Yeah but the coffee filters are cheap.. Thanks for the tip... Paper bags are hard to come by around here... Sheila

I keep a roll of the brown paper from the paint department to use under messy projects.  I rip a piece of that off to use as fine sandpaper.

I think that any of the heaver, coarser papers (read cheap) would work. Tissue or newspaper would NOT work so well. And cardboard would be hard to handle (and I doubt it would work very well anyway). Just try anything you have laying around and see if it does the job and GO FOR IT!!!

You can all so use the back side of sand paper so if your paper is 200 grit the reverse side would be 400 and so on, a lot of wood turners use this trick when sanding after 400, from 400 you go to 800 and keep on doubling till you get the desired finish

I think technically you are BURNISHING the wood or finish coat, rather than sanding, as compared to using an abrasive.
This is what is done in Hand Rubbed finishes. Which can be ultra smooth as a babies bottom.

Today I tryed both Dans and GB's way, and to let you all know they both work great.  My wife works for a grocery store so I still can get the bags free.
