Broken pieces of work

Have you ever finished cutting a beautiful piece of work, sanded it, then as you move it to finish it and it drops and breaks. Maybe into a few pieces or maybe in half. What do you do with it? Throw it away and cut another or fix it. This happened today and I ended up gluing it back together. Just curious how others have handled this problem.

Yes, it happens to all of us! If you can glue it back together thats great, If not it goes into the burn pile and chock it up to experience and move on the the next project.

Superglue works great for this.  Don't use ducktape it looks tacky.

Barbwire and duct tape gives it that....Rustic look and adds $10.00 to the price...LOL

On the finer work that I have been doing I use 2part epoxy resin, it sands and finishes welland it doesn't stain the wood like super glue does

Ta for that Jimbo I hate it when the glue shows, two part don't do that...hmmm.....

Maybe some of that sawdust clay would do the trick.  I'm with you guys though... glue it or chuck it.

I glue alot of "broken" pieces with "Titebond" and clean it up without a problem. If it has a gap, I mix sawdust with shellac or pollyurethane or water based wood filler and fill the hole.
Trust me, YOU are the only person to notice it!! Especially if it is a fret type item, no one will see it. And if they do, SO WHAT!?
The true test of a good woodworker is the ability of corecting OOPPSSEEESS which happen to all of us at one time or another.

If I have a piece that breaks and I can fix it...I call it a "design feature" and not a "mistake".

If it wasn't for glue I would have quit along time ago.

It happened to me just tonight as I was cutting a 1/4 oak fret work basket.  I didn't drop it but I was a little too aggressive clamping after gluing (sp?).
Super glue is the best thing I have found but sometimes you just have to start over
