Saga of the Saws
« on: August 19, 2012, 10:27:59 am »
When I started scrolling several years ago I got a DeWalt and loved it but after hearing all the wonderful things about the Excaliuber, I sold the DeWalt and bought the Excaliber from Acme Electric. I got it home all excited and hated it for several reasons.  I took it back to Acme and they were wonderful!  I traded for the Delta 40-690. It was great and I used it for 11 months until it gave me the problems  I discussed here.  I took it in to Acme to get fixed. ( ;) On a side note here, the repair guy said it would be at least 3 weeks before he could look at it.  I called a few days later and said there was  a bottle of Crown in it if he could get at it sooner. He called 2 days later to say it was ready  ;D )  He wanted me to bring my blades and wood I use to be sure.....It wasn't  :-\ It was doing the exact same as when I brought it in.  Acme was wonderful.  Since they didn't have a new delta they gave me my choice of options,  Send it in to the factory where they would either repair or replace,  Trade for a DeWalt for the difference in price ($522 plus $36.54 tax no stand or light) or total refund ($483.00) I took the refund, came home and ordered the DeWalt from CPO for $474 stand and light included and no tax. It will be here Tuesday. So I should be back in business and seeing Yellow again  :D

I suppose it is too late to say "Long story short" Huh?

Hope this one works out for you Judy.  Did you bring the Crown with you to the shop?

Hi Judy. I have gone through a similar experience, twice, and I feel for you, there is nothing worse than being without your scroll saw. I get withdrawal symptoms after 2 days. I had a dewalt Mk 1 at first and still have it. I then bought an excalibur 21 which lasted 3 months, here in the UK excalibur's are not to the same standard as the ones you get. So the excalibur went back to the supplier and I had a refund. Then 3 weeks ago my dewalt died so I bought a new Hegner, which cost me an absolute fortune. Fortunately I discovered that there are still many parts in the UK for the mark 1 dewalt so it is being repaired and I cannot wait to get it back. I have had it over 20 years. Sadly when the dewalt comes back to the shop the hegner will have to be returned for where the slot is in the table the two halves are not level with each other and its annoying when cutting small items. Eventually I will have two saws. I cannot be without a saw as I earn my living from it and I always need a back up, just in case.

great story, back to the yellow machine. is this called the circle of saw?  ;D

I might have done the same,  alway looking out for the best deals.
but...

(no judgment, just my thoughts)

will CPO give you the same repair and refund services as Acme?
those Internet shops are cheap and quick but my experience is that they sell much faster then they give their services...

:D I am hoping I won't need service, repair or refund.  It is said that DeWalt will stand behind it and there are other dealers I can take it to here in ND. I would be way to embarrassed to go back to Acme with a saw prioblem.

I have 2 Dewalt 788s.  Found one in a yard sale that I couldn't pass up.  It is newer than my original one.  I love having two, and love my Dewalts.

It left bad ridges on the cut edge.  If you back to my post of July 21 (if it is still available)  you can see a picture.
