Title: Post to wood
Post by: jimbo on July 23, 2010, 09:32:09 pm
This jarrah fence post was given to me some time ago, I have now cut into strips and glued it together to make useable boards for the saw the large boards are 16"x8"x3/8" and the smaller ones are12"x4 1/2x 3/8" they should look good when cut and oiled it is a very close grain and hard wood but is exellent to work with apart from the red dust

Hey Jimbo, Lets do a wood exchange. I'll send you a board of a local wood, and you send me a board of a local NZ wood! What do you think?

Nice looking wood there.  I could make some neat little ornaments from the Jarrah.  Thanks for showing us.

jarrah wood is from the same family as mahogany but more dense and harder to cut..it'll make some very nice cuttings

canadasgirl jarrah is a gum tree or eucalyptus and is grown in australia, not sure it is related to the mahogony family, when cutting with saw or turning on the lathe it creates dust and not shavings or saw dust and it goes every where, but is worth the effort as it polishs up nicely
