General Scroll Saw Talk / aquarium air blower adapted for a saw
« on: January 10, 2019, 01:14:08 pm »
I have been reading that a lot of people are using aquarium air pumps as a blower for their saw. I do not have a very good blower on my saw and would love to see pictures or instructions on how people hook up aquarium air pumps to their saws. I have lots of aquarium air pumps laying around I just can't picture how to hook them up. I would think they would vibrate and make a lot of noise. Does anyone have any pictures they are willing to share?

General Scroll Saw Talk / What do you seal pine with?
« on: January 03, 2019, 11:57:31 am »
Hi I have another newbie question. Last week I made a puzzle out of pine (the instructions said to cut it out of 3/4 " pine using a #5 blade and seal it before painting). It cut out well and fit together properly. Then I went to home depot, and Lowes, and a couple of wood stores in my area and asked about a sealer I could paint over. No one had any idea what to use. Finally one person said I should use primer on it as that was a sealer and then I could paint over it. I put the primer on it and the pieces  seemed to swell or something because it no longer fits together. I tried lightly sanding but that didn't work. Sooooo my question is what exactly do I seal wood with that I am going to paint over?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Need help with puzzles
« on: December 11, 2018, 11:25:15 pm »
I am starting to make some puzzles and I am having a lot of difficulty getting everything set up properly so the pieces will slide in and out from both the front and back. I have watched several you tube videos and tried the little test where you cut a piece of wood and then see if the blade can slide in from the back. Mine does this but still my puzzle pieces will only slide in from the front. I dont know what else to adjust. I have noticed when I made the test cut in the wood to see if the blade is perpendicular that the cut is always a lot deeper on the top. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to fix it please?

General Scroll Saw Talk / how to fiinish puzzles (beginner questions)
« on: December 05, 2018, 12:03:17 am »
Hi  I am starting to make some woodimals and I am not sure how or when to put a finish on them. I am making them out of 3/4" hardwoods (mostly maple) I would like to sand them and put some kind of varnish on them. Should I  just put the finish on after the outside cuts are done before I actually cut out the puzzle pieces or should I put the finish on all areas after the puzzle pieces are cut out? I am using a #2 pegas blade for the inside cuts so they fit very snugly. I am afraid they will not fit if I put a stain and varnish finish on them. Also should I just be sanding the outside edges?

General Scroll Saw Talk / where to buy a part
« on: September 13, 2018, 12:23:55 am »
Hello. I just bought a king Canada scroll saw and after watching a lot of you tube videos tried a few practice lines and thought I was ready to try making a project. I chose a simple project and after doing about 6 inside cuts I have broken the top  blade holder lock knob. I don't know how to get the piece that's still inside out and I cant find this part on line anywhere. The instruction manual provided a website which in turn said I needed to find a dealer or service center. There seems to be only one dealer in my area and they don't carry scroll saws or their parts. Does anyone have any idea where I can find this part? I cant do anything with my saw until I fix this. I was prepared for breaking blades but I am so disappointed that after an hour of use I broke a part I cant seem to get a replacement for.
