Noah's Ark Mirror set
« on: July 07, 2010, 11:37:38 pm »
This is a mirror and brush set I made for my wife, Carol.  The Noah's ark pattern came from one of Sue Mey's projects, which I had to edit with some cutting and pasting to make appropriate for the size and space available.  I made a template and used a router to make the recess for the mirror and then cut a maple oval which I resawed to use as a contrasting backing to the scrollsaw work.  I used the same method to cut a recess for the head of a brush to set into the accompanying piece.  I bought a commercially available brush and cut off the handle, then sanded the back flat and mounted it into the wooded brush.  Both pieces are made of Jatoba wood which I found to be very dense and oily.

I haven't cut Jatoba in many years, but I think it is one of the most beautiful woods there are.  I remember going through lots of blades, which is usually uncharacteristic of me.  I LOVE the choice for your project though.  It came out lovely and I am sure she will treasure it.  Great job!
