New "See Creature" Moose au naturel
« on: June 07, 2010, 11:01:42 am »
And now for the ?Moose Lover in all of us!? . . . The Moose See Creature! As with the White Tail Deer, the original pattern was made from MDF and painted. Keeping with the philosophy that ?Naked is nicer? I decided to show this moose in his altogether too. (Oh, come on! . . . We only see his head!) This handsome creature was made from Mahogany, with Walnut antlers. I used 3/4? Mahogany and 1/4? Walnut. It is finished with mineral oil and paste wax, but you can spray it with poly or your favorite finish if you want. It is quick, easy and fun and sure to be a great conversation piece! I hope you enjoy them! (Oh, you could also hang these on a wall to hold your shop glasses!)

;) This model I made in beech, several of my friends thought it was funny and asked me, a total of four. Now it remains for me to do it again for me, the others having all been sold! ... Nice work also in walnut! ..  ;)

I forgot to mention that they are featured in this current issue of Creative Woodworks and Crafts Magazine (July,2010) along with the deer.  (The rest are available on my site), but if you get the magazine, you already have the patterns! :)

Very nice.  I have the magazine (and patterns) but agree that using the "plain" wood beats the painted ones hands down.

I have a friend with a "moose room" in her house.  I may have to make this for her one of these days.

Scrollgirl, I sent my parents on a mission to find the magazine (oh boy am I gonna have to subscribe!... no bookstores anywhere near me!), JUST for the See Creatures feature, especially the moose!
I definately plan on doing this... VERY soon, but I have to ask... How would you hang this on a wall for shop glasses?

Bull, you could do it by making the neck a little longer and then cutting it at an angel before putting the base on. The base could then be used to mount it to the wall.

I am sorry I didn't answer right away. . . I have been drawing and at the saw.   Yes, you just make the neck a little longer by extending the lines and mount it onto the base, or you can make a larger one, maybe in the shape of a shield, and attach that to your wall.

Send pics if any of you decide to try!  I would love to see them and so would others, I am sure!

Thanks, Sheila
