Title: First Intarsia
Post by: beginner on February 06, 2011, 11:57:30 am
This is my first try.  It is a copy of my wifes dog. I need a lot more practice to be half as good as some of the finnished work that has been posted here.

Hey Jim, That's wonderful! What are the woods you used?
Also, If it's you wifes dog, Isn't your dog too?

Nice!  I haven't worked up the nerve to try an intarsia project yet.  I'm sure my first won't come out as good as yours did!

The main body is Butternut, The nose is walnut, The "tung" is bloodwood and the eyes are magic marker.  I haven't been able to find any inexpensive black wood.  This is my wife's dog.  Mine is a Min-Pin.  Thanks for all of the positive comments.

Good Job at least You go tthe nerve to try it I still have not gotten that far yet lol..

@DG Nope the wifes dog is the wifes dog Just like my wife she has her dog a inside dog and I have mine an outside dog (He is the Guard dog) so the wifes dog is the wifes dog and his dog is his dog lol It just works that way for some reason.

Be careful, be very careful! It can become an addiction. Forget your family and friends your scroll saw will get all your attention!! :D. Just kidding. Great job on your first project!

Very nice job on the first piece, it does get easier. I find the challenge in what to raise and what to lower, which colors to use but that is the art of intarsia. No matter what, all pieces are beautuful because no two are alike, everything is unique. You just add your own touch to each creation. Keep up the good work ;)

really a good one. I didn't try intarsia yet - seems like a lot of work.

I have seen some of the work shown around town, but I don't really understand how it is done with a scroll saw. It looks more like router work to me...I guess I will have to read up on it.BT, that is a pretty good attempt for the first time...I would be bragging!!!
