The Coffee Shop / The new girlfriend.
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:54:30 am »
A young man took his new blonde girlfriend out for the night, cinema and a few drinks etc then on the way home ?as you do, pulled up in a quiet lane and after a quick fumbling session said to her, ?Get in the back?. ?NO?. She replied. ?Oh go on, get in the back?.  He asked again. ?NO?. She said again sharply. ?Why not, he asked, I thought you liked me?. ?Oh I do she said, I think you are really cute, that's why I want to stay in the front with you?.

The Coffee Shop / The Book
« on: February 23, 2012, 07:17:17 pm »

Sister Mary Louise is teaching her class how to write a book and goes to great lengths to explain that a book must have a little religion, a little sex and a huge mystery. She then asks them to work out a plot and start on the first chapter, and reminds them again, a little religion, a little sex and a big mystery. After 5mins, the blonde in the class put her hand up and said. ?Finished sister?. Sister in disbelief asked her to read it out to the class, whereupon the girl stood up and read. ?My God, I?m pregnant, who done it?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Spray Mount
« on: February 13, 2012, 01:46:09 am »
When I first started Scrolling, about a year ago, I experimented with various types of spray mount for affixing patterns to wood. I found them very messy, the nozzles often got clogged up, and I was inhaling the gasses and some of the glue. It was also pretty difficult to get the pattern off the project once the cutting was finished and the surrounding area also got sprayed and inevitably, some of the spray managed to find its way onto the face of the pattern which smudged the ink while sticking it to the wood to be cut. Furthermore, I was using about twice as much as I needed to, in order to get the spray right up to the edges as half of it would land on the surrounding area.
I have now taken to using craft glue sticks, (Prit Sticks we call them in the UK). They don?t get airborne, they don?t clog up, they cover just the area you want, no need to turn the can upside down and spray to clean the spout, they don?t contaminate the wrong side of the pattern, can be used a couple of minutes after the pattern has been applied to the wood, don?t lift up while cutting and come off easily with a damp cloth when done. I apply the glue to both the paper and the wood, that seems to give me the best bond.      Iggy.

General Scroll Saw Talk / F D Mike
« on: February 13, 2012, 12:49:09 am »
I think Mike of F D fame, deserves all the praise we can heap on him, I recently had a problem with his department and he kept coming back at my barrage of e-mails until we sorted it out. His service is second to none in any language from any country and in any currency. You can visit any scroll saw community anywhere and there is always a question relating to blades and the answer is always talk to Mike, he will sort you out quickly and efficiently. Considering the personal problems he has had in recent years, the number of customers he has, the fact that he runs it all from home and still finds time to answer posts on this site and others and do a bit of sawing as well, makes him a five star general in my book. Well done Mike.       PS The blades are pretty good to.    Iggy.    8)  8)  8)  8)  8)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Air Brush Help.
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:06:48 pm »
I just love cutting things out and putting them together, after that I lose interest, probably because I am useless at finishing. With that in mind I decided to hit the problem head on and have bought an air brush and little compressor, I now need some practice and know  how, some of you must know where I can find the best info on the subject. The tube is full of it, but mostly in a demonstration mode and not on learning the craft, or am I looking in the wrong places? I would really appreciate some help here.   ::)  ::)

General Scroll Saw Talk / My EX arrived yesterday.
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:55:32 pm »
My new EX arrived yesterday, just 2 hrs. Before the new bed so the flack from her in draws did not last too long. Because of the bed, I didn?t get to open the box until this morning, only one word to describe it AWSOME. After examining it for ? an hour, decided to take off the stupid little dust shoot, hold-down and the underside blade protector. I consider these saws pretty safe compared to my other stuff like the floor saw, band saw, Woodrat and router table etc. I then made a base from some ?? faced ply and made a contraption to hold my 4? magnifier from above the saw and connected to the upper arm via the hole left by the removal of the hold-down. It consists of a 3/8? rod ground down at one end to fit the hold-down hole, it is just long enough to hold the magnifier about ?? above the table. I then fitted a 1?sq piece of oak at right angles to the top about 5? long to allow the magnifier to hang between me and the business end of the saw. I figured that fitting it to the top arm means that it will move out of the way when I move the arm and come back again ready for use when I resume cutting. All that remains now is to tidy up, edge band the base and a lick of paint I am away. Thank you all for your guidance in my previous post, i decided to start a new topic here as the last one is getting off track now. Iggy.                 <PS> sorry no picks, yet to figure that one out.    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

General Scroll Saw Talk / EX 21
« on: January 22, 2012, 05:35:02 am »
Living in the UK, I ordered my new EX 21 from the agent here Axminster. They had a pre Chrissy offer of ?490, so  jumped on it, they are now ?565. Since then I read on This Forum that they are made under lisence in the Far East. The question is. Has anyone got one of them and are they up to standard? After all, you dont expect to buy a RR and have it arrive with Made in China on the label. The machine is due for delivery in a couple of weeks and I was wondering weather or not to Cancell and order direct from Canada. Iggy.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Making one off small pieces.
« on: May 29, 2011, 05:08:44 am »
Hi Guys & Gals & Gabby.
When making one off toys requiring many small one off components of say 3" in length I seem to waste inordinate amounts of wood trying to get the right dimentions as my thicknesser will only take about 2' minimum length without putting life and limb in peril. I am sure you all have your methods and I would be interested to find out how?

Lol Iggy.

« on: May 28, 2011, 06:50:09 pm »
I have bought the plans for Clayton Boyers Bird of Paradise Clock, anyone ever built one of these things, I am not very fond of it, aesthetically, but it seems a worthy challenge and any advice woud be welcome. Looking through the U Tube Vidio, makes me think I need to buy a CNC router to cut the cogs.     LOL Iggy. P S I am still new here, and you guys have been GGGGRRRREEEEAAAATTTT. Thanks. ;D

General Scroll Saw Talk / What a Welcome
« on: May 23, 2011, 07:03:10 pm »
Hi All.
Thanks for the fantastic welcome, I have a woodrat, one of those dovetailing machines that work on wires, I joined the forum and had no replies so gave up. What a change to have the welcome you guys gave me. I will be of little use to you for a while as the scroll saw is a new toy for me so need practice, I am working on that using Steves Jig Saw patterns as blanks. I seem to be ok on the left hand turns but lousy on the right, I think I need to relax more + I am getting a bit short sighted as I am 67 now and am never sure which way the tiny blade is facing when I come out of a sharp turn. I may get rid of that stupid perspex guard and fit a magnifying glass in its place, and get another light on the other side as the existing one casts a shadow running away from the blade and is a pain in the preverbial. What do you think???
