Stopping the warp..

Hi All..I'm curious as to how you store your thinner woods so they don't warp. I buy 1/4 inch Poplar and Red oak, 8-10 inches wide,24 inches long, at Home Depot or Lowes. They are the only wood sources in my town. It lays flat and looks good when I buy it, but in no time it starts to bow and warp. I keep it in the house (120 degrees in the garage right now) and wonder if I should store it flat, standing up, weighted down or what. Your thoughts would be much appreciated..Jon

Hey DustyKnees, I will stand the wood up, leaning against something so both sides are exposed to air circulation. The biggest mistake is laying it flat on a table or bench. The top side absorbs more moisture than the bottom, which will cause the warp.

If you have the space, put a few stickers down, then board/stickers/board/stickers topped by weight.  The Handsome Woodman had some pictures on his site.

I always try to get to the lumberyard BEFORE they run the wood through their warper.
