Title: Crayon Train (in progress)
Post by: smitty0312 on September 23, 2012, 06:17:21 pm
This is what I have been working on, my crayon train made from 2x stock, crayons will stand up in holes on the 2 middle cars, planing on making my own wheels, this from a pattern I made last year, but never got around cutting it. Not sure what colors I will use. Still got alot work to do to the engine. Using #9 FD blades fresh from Mikes Workshop. I found out on the 1st car I cut not to push and get in a hurry, that one is in the scrap pile as we speak, I learned to cut very very sloooooooow to get better results. A bandsaw would be a better choice for this, but I don't have one just yet. It will hold 28 crayons. Give me some input on what you would do. Thanks as always.

Smitty,

I like the train. IT can be adapted to different  numbers of crayons.  You could even use it as a pencil holder. Even a holder for scroll saw blade tubes! Yesterday I picked up 4 sets of kids markers at a garage sale. Drew out a fairly simple  worm and will cut and drill to fit the eight or ten piece sets. Your train will make a great gift for kids and I am sure you could sell them also.   Nice Idea.

Vrey nice train.  Some kid's gonna love it.

You might want to drill your holes for crayons before you put the wheels on.  It's easier.

That seems to make sense.

Holes are drilled now for crayons, I am waiting to get some store bought wheels, My homemade ones didn't look good, then paint or stain, painting is not my strong point, might even burn edges and clear coat. Thanks for the great comments.
