Computer questions / Re: Pattern Design Software
« on: April 10, 2017, 11:14:32 am »
I think the most commonly used softwares are Gimp and Inkscape.  Gimp for pictures and Inkscape for the word patterns.  The are also used together, do some on one, load the project on the other and finish it.  Both are free down loadable software.  I have both, but have not figured it out yet.  There are many great tutorials on Youtube on how to use them.  I have heard of others that people use, Coyote, Adobe something.. and some others.  Charles Dearing, one of the most noted picture type pattern makers does it the old fashion way, least it appeared that way from one of his tutorials, he traces the picture by hand.

No I was really trying to be funny.  I have seen bits like you shoe, but I didn't think they came in small sizes.

John G.  You should let your hair down.  Get out in the world a little, try different blades.  It is fun and you might be surprised.

Nice, easy and functional.  Great idea.  Well done.  You stated you may cut the holes for the binder next time as opposed to drilling, why is that?

I'd think those would sell good to golfers or as gifts to golfers.

If you are stupid, so am I.  How do you think i thought of that.....  ::)  I would bet every scroller has/does that once and a while.  Some blades I just can not tell.  My favorite blades are the Flying Dutchman PS or PSR.  They are very easy to tell.  Most the teeth run the same direction, draw back is they are slow cutting and not good for thick woods.  The Flying Dutchman TC #5 has a "dimple" at the top of the blade, so a person can easily tell.  I wish all blades did that, at least the ones with reverse teeth.

So, if you are really worried, start buying some replacement parts now and stock up.  at least on the items most likely to fail.

What he said, and the best thing I have found for me to remove the "fuzzies" is a sanding mop first and then a little wire brush on my Dremel tool to get the ones the mop can't.
