General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Dull Blade Question
« on: December 29, 2017, 11:07:47 am »
Do what I have been doing for years.
Put a metal coffee can on a table near your saw and place the broken / bent / dull blade in it. In about 10 or 20 years or so the can will be about full and ready for disposal. Put the lid on the can and take it to a metal recycling place or land fill for disposal.
Never put to old used blades in the regular trash as someone can get poked, cut, stabbed and infected from a small wound and won't be too happy with the happy scroll saw person.

The question is, where do you find a metal coffee can these days??

I don't know the answer to your very complicated question, but yesterday I found out it you put the blade in backwards, it doesn't cut at all when you feed from the front!! :-\ :-\

Brag Forum / O Holy Night Nativity
« on: December 11, 2017, 10:56:27 am »
Being our old Nativity that my wife and I have used for 50 years, finally gave up and fell apart, I decided to make one to replace it.  I wanted simple, and easy but nice.  This one by Sue Mey is from the latest issue of "Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts" magazine.  It was rally fun to make.  Took a day and well, just fit what I was looking for.  I did take the liberty of moving the star to above the stables.  I made the star easily removable for easier packing away.

I guess I look at it a little differently.  I mailed a picture to a friend in Australia this past year.  The picture cost little, I made it, the shipping was around $35.  I couldn't even deliver it to the next town from me myself for $35.  I thought I got a heck of a deal.

And, Norm, if that item you purchased that was made in China, if it had been made in America you probably could not have afforded to buy it in the first place....  :D

I guess I do not understand why you are so upset.  General is a Canadian company, been around for a long time and have good tools.  Now the Excalibur is back, and there are two other saws that use interchangeable parts for the Excalibur.  And of the three saws you probably own the best one.   Life is good!

Do any of you that use this, do you do detailed fret work.  Like real detailed pictures.  I would like to know if it works well for that?  I don't want to experiment on a detail picture I have spent a few weeks on.

Brag Forum / One FOr My Nephew
« on: November 20, 2017, 03:57:33 pm »
This a Steve Good pattern I received in his daily e-mail.  I saw it and thought it was perfect for a plaque for my Nephew's garage.  My Nephew does a lot for me and always has been willing to help me out when ever I need it.  So I am always looking for a way to do something for him.  This is the kind of guy he is, I love old tractors.  For 18 years now he has given ma a calendar that has pictures of old tractors.  When he started doing it he got them free from a friend that owned a service station.  Years ago the friend quit the business, but my Nephew still shows up each year with the calendar only now he has to pay for them!

Anyway, I am going to surprise him with this little plaque this year.

Thanks for the neat pattern, Steve

Yes.  I think I read to do that in a owners manual once, not sure.  Just like on a band saw I have always been told to release the tension when not in use.

I buy most my books that way.  Have not been disappointed yet.  Fact I bought the very copy of this book off EBay, cheap.  There are some Goodwill stores that sell on Ebay.  I have bought lots of books through the, dirt cheap, and free shipping.  Sometimes I think they payed more to ship it than I paid for the book.  I have always received great, prompt service from them.

I'm really wondering if it is related to a Windows, upgrade or something.  I really worked fine in my Mac.
