Can you explain what "segmentation" is?
I'm definitely no expert, but here goes:
Segmentation is kind of like "beginners intarsia", except that with intarsia, many of the pieces are cut from different pieces/types of wood to control color and grain, where with segmentation, the pieces are all cut from the same piece of wood, resulting in the grain running in the same direction for every piece, and before staining, the pieces are all the same color. Once the pieces are cut, they are shaped (if desired). In my case I used my dremel with the flex shaft and a small fine grit sanding drum. Some of the pieces were very small (i.e. wing/tail feathers and flower centers) and were very hard to hold and sand, but I got through it without sanding off too much of my thumbnail! Once the pieces are shaped and stained, they are glued to a veneer backer to hold them all together. I hope this explains things without clouding it up too bad!
