DeWalt Cordless drill & 1/16th drill bits
« on: July 15, 2020, 06:05:39 pm »
I watched Steve's tutorial for beginners.  He used a DeWalt cordless drill and a 1/16th drill bit to drill holes for inside cuts.  I have 3 DeWalts and none of them has a chuck that will accommodate the small 1/16th bit. When completely closed, the chucks on my drills have a gap that is larger than the 1/16th bit.  Any solutions?

I use a cheap drill press ($69 from Princess auto same as Harbor Freight)
that the chuck works with 1/16th and when it won't reach I use a Mikita cordless.

Google "Mini Drill Chuck" you can find it available from lots of sources.  In Canada Amazon.ca and Grainger

I use it for small bits but is would be fine for 1/16th.

Here is my set up.  I had a bit extender that I glued into a piece of wood so it is easier to tighten small bits.  You could just leave a 1/16th in it.

Your cheapest solution for now is to get a set of drill bits that have the 1/4 hex base.
Harbor Freight has a set.  There's a HF six blocks from my house so, yes, I have these.
