General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Air tube for Delta scroll saw

I gave up on fighting with the tube. I used a small piece of metallic tape and a small hose clamp and all is now well.

Get your FD blades from Mike; if you gotta have blades today, Ace Hardware carries a good variety of somewhat pricier Olsen blades.

I use Microsoft Paint which is free on Windows machines. It is primitive but you can resize by percentage or # of pixels.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: NEED ADVICE ON BUYING A SCROLL SAW!!

Matthew, I just upgraded from the Cman to the Delta and am very pleased with the new unit. Amazon had the delta for $399 and there was an additional 15% promo from Delta. You might want to check if that is still available. I had great service from the Cman, but the Delta is a vast improvement.

I also use the painters tape for the reasons stated above. For  spray adhesive I recently switched to Elmer's which dries quickly and leaves less sticky residue than the brands I had been using. Welcome to the Forum and enjoy your Dewalt. I've got its twin from Delta sitting under the tree and am anxious to get it unpacked.

I ordered the Delta 40694 on Amazon for $399 less 15% on a Delta Promotion; with free shipping it is coming to my door for $339. Same saw as the yellow one for
$160 less. My 16 in. Craftsman has been a great starter saw and I am ready for an upgrade.

I've been using Poplar from Lowe's for a number of woodworking projects. As I am new to scroll saw work I have not used it yet for pattern work; I  will as soon as I buy some 1/2" and 1/4 " stock. Poplar is easy to work with, cut and sands nicely, and accepts stain evenly in my experience. Be very careful with the use of excessive wood glues, don't ask how I know this.

Introduce Yourself. / New from Colorado
« on: November 07, 2012, 11:07:07 pm »
Retired 18 months ago and have been doing a lot of woodworking, baby furniture for the new grandchild, sturdy toys, tables and plant stands for the better half. Decided to try my hand with a scroll saw for smaller projects and have done a Christmas door angel, and am working on my first child's puzzle.  Lots to learn and this forum looks like a lot of fun.
