Hi Tony,
I think your choice of thickness will depend on the scale you build your London eye. 6mm sounds a bit heavy to me, 4mm might be better.
Baltic or Birch ply would be a good choice in my opinion as this can be cut into thin sections and retain its strength.
 Regards,
Nick.

I also buy wood with no particular project in mind and the pile gets bigger. But no matter how much wood I keep, I never seem to have quite the piece I want!

Hi Geoff,
I also have an EX 21 and have also had alot of problems. Mine is out of the guarantee period but given it only gets very light use and is a top of the range machine I am dissapointed to say the least. I have spoken to Axminster who supplied the machine and got the luke warm response that if I return it (at my cost) they will "look at" it. Im not sure what "look at" it means. It clearly could be a good machine but I am forever taking mine to pieces trying to solve the awful noise it makes. I dont even bother putting the plastic cover screws back in place since I know I will be taking them out again ten minutes later.
My Hegner on the other hand just purrs and never needs any attention.
I hope this helps.
Nick.

Hi,
I'm Nick from Saffron Walden near Cambrige in The UK. I enjoy cutting patterns for my Grandchildren. I only started a few months ago and like being able to finish a project in an evening as opposed to some of my other projects which take months. Still stuggling to get good sharp corners though!
