New toys for the workshop
« on: January 17, 2011, 03:14:03 pm »
Good Day Folks!

Have some new tools for the WigWag Workshop.  A DEWALT D26453K 3 Amp 5-Inch Variable Speed Random Orbit Sander Kit with Cloth Dust Bag, and a DeWalt DWP611 Premium Compact Router. Now I will need to order some router bits.

A router is a very good enhancement of wood working!

You will have to build a table:

A router is a fantastic tool, but sometimes it needs to be mounted in the table. Makes it even more efficient!

Enjoy your new toys. They look great. A router is the next thing on my wishlist. Got one that fits my Dremel, but would love the big brother as well.

I have had that same sander for a couple of years and it works great. Let me know how the router works. Nice new toys.  :)

When I first started doing woodworking, we only used routers to put an edge on a board, or trim laminate.  Now we have so many uses for routers and they are so versatile, they are one of the workhorses of a woodshop.  If you haven't already done so, look into router template work.  It really works well and saves time and mistakes.

You will have to build a table:

Hey Torsten,

What a great building plan of that table.
I now use a Ikea Bekvam table,

I think your Idea will be suitable for some extra table space.
it's a great simple plan with the drawer and so.

Thanks!

Just made myself a new work bench, with a wood workers vise. I tore my garage apart. Organized all of my nuts, bolts, screws, & all of my tools. I mounted my bench grinder, and my drill press. My next two projects are a stand for my scroll saw, and a router table. Then I'm set to start on the pie safe project! Dave 8)

Good Day Folks!

Thanks for all the kind words, and idea's for a table. I am slowly building my workshop from scratch, as I am new to the hobby. The tools were purchased by my Sweetie. Next on the list is a spindle sander, and a belt/disc combo sander.

Steven, I have the same sander, and it is fantastic, you will definitely want to mount your router in a table. I have mine in a table with an 1/8" round over bit in it all the time. I have a spindle sander, that I do not use much. As far as a belt/disc sander, I use it all the time. In my opinion if you can afford the 9" Disc/ 6" by 48" belt get the bigger one, I have had a sears for a couple of years now that works well for me, it has a built in dust collection, just hook up your shop vac. Have fun, I love tools.

Hey Marcel,
That's also a good solution. Mount a fence on top and mount the router.
It's also good to have a safety switch at the router table.
