I made these for a person that had some old pictures, only they didn't want them made cartoonish.
They are about 19" high and woods used were: Walnut, Padauk, Holly. Cedar and Pine.

Dan, I guess I left that wood off the list, I used Poplar for his Hat.

The Intarsia "thing" still amazes me. Outstanding work again. Thanks for the pic!

They look amazing! This intarsia starts to draw me more and moer. The more pieces I see the more I want to try it, but somehow haven't gotten round to it yet.

Intarsia92... what do you use to stain the wood? Various things for various woods?
-
Janet, if you're referring to "Country Folks" the only stain I used is on the Man?s shirt. I used a Red water-base stain on the Padauk so the color will remain Red.
?Padauk will turn a dark Brown, in time, with exposure to light?.
I'll only use a coloring agent if a customer requests it, with two exceptions, i.e. On pieces I want to remain White I'll use a "Semi Opaque White Acrylic? watered down so the wood grain still shows through and as stated above I?ll put a wash on Padauk so it stays Red.
On all other projects where a color is requested I just use an Acrylic paint, either straight or watered down.
On projects where I?ve used white color woods I use Minwax, water based, Clear Satin, Polycrylic, spray or, Deft, Satin, Clear Wood Finish, spray to keep the white from turning yellow.
On all other projects I use Minwax, Clear Satin, Polyurethane, spray because, I think the oil-based finish brings out the colors better.
