General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: What got you started in this hobby?

Suet Feeders!

I found a plan to make an acorn shaped suet feeder and began by cutting them out of cedar fence boards. Learned early that doing them with a hand held jig saw was the pits! So i bought a junker scroll saw and tried that. Then I tried something just a bit different and needed a better saw so I bought a used Craftsman 16" vs. That totally hooked me! Made a bunch of Christmas presents, ornaments and such as well as wedding present for my grandson. That drew so many compliments that I have to get a better saw!
Now I am  selling my various bird feeders at a local farmer's market and putting that money away for a DW788! Should have enough by August so I can make Christmas gifts this year for almost everyone!
Never had such a relaxing and also vexing hobby in my life!

That is what makes me PROUD to associate with "scrollers"!

Assuming the times are all 'board' times that was about THREE hours from request to solution!

Fantabulous!!!!!!

Are you and the 'mods' using a system of 'moderation' for new members?

I do that on my groups until the member has established a pattern of responsible posting.

I clicked on the website of one of the members who joined today and was directed to a site that is very definitely NOT "Family Friendly"!
I immediately sent you an email giving the member's name.

I did not readily see a manner in which the members can 'directly' contact the moderation team and I may have missed it.

The one I saw on 'craigslist' St. Louis is going for $400....
From Craigslist....
This is a SAGE scroll saw. made by Vintage Scroll Saw in Branson, Missouri. The saw, except for the variable speed motor, etc, is made of solid oak. The arms, arm brackets, inside frame, pitman, and cabinet back are laminated for strength. The arms pivot in the brackets held by steel pins through bronze bushings that need no lubrication.

The 1/8HP motor will operate from 40 to 1500 strokes per minute. It is in great shape.

This saw currently sells new for $795.

Location: Pacific/Washington, MO

I seem to remember that pattern from "Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts" magazine about a year ago. I know I have it somewhere and will try to locate it. But like everyone else I have to ROOT through tons of patterns so bear with me. ;D
