Ask Steve a question. / Re: Merchant Marine
« on: November 06, 2016, 08:07:07 am »
In WWII the Merchant Marine lost more personnel, percentage wise, than all the other forces put together.
Late in 1944, the harbor of Bari, Italy, was filled with cargo ships waiting to unload at night. The lights were on, and the Germans were informed. They got together enough planes to bomb the harbor. That event is sometimes called the second Pearl Harbor. My father's ship was tied up next to one filled with explosives. He and so many others did not come back.

Ask Steve a question. / Scrollnado question
« on: September 18, 2016, 12:34:32 pm »
Am trying to find out if the Scrollnado will fit the Excalibur 16". Amazon sent the question to the Community, and has said, today, that I probably won't get an answer. Do you want to guess?

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Polymer clay
« on: January 20, 2014, 06:13:20 pm »
Am going to make Steve's little box, with the polymer clay in the frets. Haven't used it before, so wanted to test. Made a couple of frets in 1/4" maple. Warmed the clay, in my hands, filled, checking both sides, baked at 275? F for 15 minutes. The next day the clay slid right out.
I can't find Steve's original instructions for using it, and have done a general search for suggestions on Google. Nothing different.
Does the scrollsaw make the cuts too smooth? Can come up with a way to get it done, with a backing and glue. However, maybe I didn't do it right. Anyone?

Finished this too late for Halloween, but am ready for next year. It is walnut and Baltic birch ply, finished with B/O mix and Deft semi-gloss. Pat B

Brag Forum / Ornaments

Am making ornaments for the little craft shop here at my retirement complex. Part of the money they receive is used for charitable efforts.
There are multiples of most; they are 1/8" maple or birch, finished with Deft semi-gloss. The sleds will have runners attached. Last year the military and the dog ones sold.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Missing owl pattern
« on: November 08, 2013, 05:05:46 pm »
If anyone here communicates with Steve on a personal level, please pass on this message. The pattern called "Owl" in the bird section of the catalog is a blank page. I wrote in the Ask Steve a Question topic, but that didn't help. Would like to get that pattern.

This pattern from Sue Mey's site made me smile, so had to make it. We need more of that!
It's 1/4" oak ply, the owls are walnut, padauk, zebra and acrylic paint in the middle. It is hanging (with help from carpet tape) on the wall where it is easily seen.

Now, that is scary on Halloween.  :o ;D
Haven't put any pictures in the gallery since spending the summer in a care center. Am on my feet again and will try to catch up with things made just before and lately. Have missed you all.

Since moving to the retirement community have gotten a few things made.
Currently working on Dirk Boelman's Big Ben and an elaborate French Mirror from Rick H. site. There have been some other things, but just figured out how to post pictures here. Pat B

Made this mirror some years ago. It must have been left behind in the fast move and estate sale. Does anyone remember who sold it? Would like to make it again. Thank you. Pat B

Computer questions / Microsoft updates vs Firefox
« on: April 16, 2011, 12:46:25 pm »
There are MS updates coming so often. The last couple did something to my ISP. So I restored to a few days ago, and all is well. Also, changed the settings for automatic updates.
Am thinking of changing to Firefox, as I heard there  is not a constant stream of updates. True?

Thank you,
