Congrats to the two winners. We are really fortunate to have these contests. I do buy from Bear woods as well as Steve's products and really enjoy This Forum,  the free patterns that Steve gives  as well as the great information Steve posts.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: blade questions

Is it possible the upper and lower blade attachment are out of line? I had a Dremel scroll saw that became problematic until I found the right alignment through finicky adjustments thenadded a drop of lock tyte to the threads

The Coffee Shop / Happy Easter 2018
« on: April 01, 2018, 09:43:09 am »
Wishing a Happy 2018 Easter to everyone, I live in North East Saskatchewan and the Easter Bunny that lives somewhere in our yard is still white and enjoying three and a half feet of hard crusty snow. He leaves his eggs on top of the snow banks; they are brown colored not the colorful ones from Walmart and taste like S----. So wont be gathering any of them.

Enough small talk remember " He is Risen"

General Scroll Saw Talk / Shop Air quality
« on: March 25, 2018, 08:52:11 am »
read Steve's essay on the Wen Air Infiltration Cleaning system posted today. Very good info and an especially good topic for me. I have COPD so good air filtration in my shop is essential or I become  a sick puppy. I love my hobby and life would be really void if I could not work at it. I installed a King system a year ago. I use it much similar to Steve's method and need to clean the pre filter often. I also use a dust mask most of the time and try to use local sawdust collection on my larger power tools and sanders as often as possible. This winter was really cold; cold effected my breathing so a nice warm shop is a piece of heaven during our long winter months.

have a good day and happy scrolling

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Scrolling with my GRANDCHILDREN
« on: February 24, 2018, 06:18:23 pm »
all the above is real good advice, as to actual sawing I did not explain the movement of the upper arm as it cuts through the wood; one of my grandkids got a good rap on the knuckles from the blade holder knob on its down stroke. Only a slight bruise injury but stopped interest in the scroll saw for a long time.

Scroll sawing is one of the safest pastimes in a woodworker's shop that I know of. almost impossible to have a catastrophic saw cut like a table saw could give.

Opposite the set screw that is used for holding the blade should be another adjustable pad for the blade to be squeezed in. this also aligns  the top holder with the bottom holder. This pad is usually screwed into place and sometimes it moves out of alignment or is not set properly at the factory. it could be the top or bottom holder or maybe both.  Using the appropriate screw driver, tork or allan wrench should allow you to make move the pad one way or another.

It may take a lot of patience, trial and errorr to get it aligned properly.

I bought a saw years ago from a large box store  and that item caused no end of frustration and this store had zero technical support, larger stores don't do always well with helping me but a call to the manufacturer did help a bit.   In time I got it to work reasonably well only to have other problems arise.

what really helped was I eventually upgraded to a Dewalt and it has been happy scrolling ever since.

I have been using Saw Bird blades from Garnet Hall, but did try Pegas from Bear Woods both are really good. Shipping from Garnet Hall is cheaper as for golf balls I cheap out and use " found balls" and usually drive them back into the bush or pond from where they came from.

Hope you don't mind, I copied, pasted and e-mailed this on to friends and family. It has been incredibly cold and most of my friends don't have a nice heated shop with a scrollsaw and access to plenty of patterns to enjoy the winters here in Northern part of Saskatchewan Canada

The Coffee Shop / Re: Christmas Show Over!
« on: December 22, 2017, 11:48:11 pm »
I am 75 as well. First time on the Christmas craft show route here in mid-north Saskatchewan with moderate success. a two day show was interesting as turnout was dismal even though there was a kids hockey tournament in the same building. by three o clock on the second day my wife and I made the price of the table and still had $2:00 to split, the next two hours was amazing,  storm blew in, people left yet we picked up  five full days of commission work and $350:00 in our money tin.  It was fun, our expectations are not to high, people did seem to appreciate our work and gave incentive to do more creative work for maybe the spring run..

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Something Stinks in Canada and Taiwan
« on: December 07, 2017, 08:00:14 am »
I think there is enough stink to go around to not only Canada, Taiwan, but to china and U.S, must include Mexico in the stink as well. I recently bought an article out of Minnesota for $180.00, shipping to me here in Canada was another $62.00 plus, This item like most things is made in China. Go figure. On the positive note its just a good topic to exercise our right to complain.

I made an 8 x 10 puzzle that fits inside a 10 x11 envelope for my neighbor to ship to Austrailia, Priority shipping was $60.00 and regular mail was over $20.00 the same article to ship inside Canada was $4.50 even $4.50 looks to me like a gouge job.

Have a good day my friends and don't let the stinky things spoil the day.
