Anyone know what this is?
« on: June 12, 2012, 02:01:47 am »
Ok, I know an elderly lady. Her husband had made this item about 25 years ago. It is basically a large heart with heart hole cut into it. Then a board across the top has 4 fishing lines with silk (Christmas Ornaments Like Balls) balls hanging down. behind the silk balls are wires that stretch across the hole in the middle. When you open and close the door the balls bounce on the wires making musical sounds until they stop. I would love to get a pattern of this, but don't know what it is called to even begin looking. Any suggestions?

It's called "door harp".
Interesting thing, the basic shape can be filled with all kinds of patterns.

Please keep us informed when you find some.

When I first started scrolling I made several--It's been years since I made one--I still have some pegs, wire and tuning wrench--I just might make some soon--Richard

You all are awesome. I loved seeing it on the door of the person who shared it with me. I deliver hospice meds and the man who had made the one in the picture was a patient of mine. Now I know and can make one of my own. Thanks all.

Thanks Frank, I did love this plan. I also found a place on line that sells the zypher pins and the wire. So I have hardware, just need to make one now. Appreciate the help you gave me.

Meisel has door harp patterns and all the bits and pieces that go with it if you want to make your own, also.

This video was pretty cool. He is good at showing exactly how he did what he did to make it. The problem is he has a lot of tools I dont have, but I can use his ideas and make it work. Thanks for sharing.
