letter/number stencils
« on: March 16, 2011, 05:14:55 pm »
Where do you guys go for your stencils for scrolling? I used microsoft word and printshop but neither gave me what I needed, I like the way Steve does it with lines to follow instead of solid black letters, if I don't have LINES to follow I'm all over the place :-[

Thanks Pete

Pete....

In MS Word...select the size and font you want to use.
Type the letters just as you would normally
'Select' the type
Go to the top bar and select "Format'
'Select' - Font
When the dialog box drops down go to the middle and Select "Outline"
Click OK and that should give you the letters in 'outline format!

Then if you click on character spacing  >  Select spacing > condensed >  then set the numbers accordingly to make the letters touch if you want a word with no lines.

Where is character spacing at ??  I'm on Windows XP .  Don't mean to sound dumb, but hey if the shoe fits I'll admit to it  :o

I picked up three scroll saw fonts (Steve's I think), but would like to know where I can find a free download of other stencil type fonts to add to the fonts already in Word. I have Windows XP home.
Thanks Gabby

One place is ...www.dafont.com another is ...www.urbanfonts.com...also try...www.fontspace.com

Do you also have Microsoft Office?

If not get "Open Office"...it is free and does all the same things.

Thanks GB even after I've been picking on you, you still come through! Go see cross posting. LOL
I was trying to remember Open Office but was drawing a blank. I don't particularly like the layout in Word
I find it counter intuitive. I did try the outline feature, the problem, and I may just be missing something (probably) but I didn't think they would cut well since they didn't have the connecting parts to keep all the pieces in place like a stencil does.
I'll check out those other links too.
Thanks again,
Gabby

I liked the dafont website the best, lots of good fonts and easy to view, the other 2 weren't as well organized and the second had annoying pop ups. I noticed they all had similar fonts. I was mainly checking their Western Fonts for comparison.
Thanks again GB
