Band Saw Blades
« on: January 20, 2013, 09:43:47 am »
Just bought a band saw - retroactive Christmas present - and I am looking for the group's opinion on which blade(s) are the best out there for wood work.  Primarily will be re-sawing, but will do some figure cutting as well.

Your suggestions are welcome.

depends on what you will cut.
I have a 3/8 and a 5/8 blade.
use the 3/8 the most cutting up to 2-3" i guess.
if I saw bigger wood i take the 5/8 blade, but I don't like to change the blade....

I use a 3/4 ' 4TPI for resawing and a 1/4 inch for most everything else.  I do have a3/8 that came on the saw but it is not a quality blade.  When I had t ocall Rikon for a small problem, the rep asked me if I had changed the blade.  When I tol dhime yes, his comment was GOOD MOVE. I have used Olsen and Timberwolf and they both work fine for me.

I stay with the same size blade for all my band saw work, if you have several different sizes you have to reset you saw to use them

I like Carter blades.  I use a 1/2 for resawing.

I re-saw a lot of  8"cedar and some oak. I use 1/2" woodslicer blades.

Timberwolf and wood slicers are the best that I have used so far. I use a 1" on my saw with 2 to 4 teeth per inch, with the 4" I run a low speed and get a better cut with a 2 or three about the same on low or high speed. I have the grizzly 17" saw. Steve
