Title: Where do you find it??
Post by: Adam on January 29, 2015, 09:35:57 pm
Hey all, I'm curious, I've been using regular birch plywood for my projects, I see the use of Baltic Birch is preferred over regular birch ply. I'm curious, where do you find it at? I didn't see any at lowes (But I haven't looked in depth) I've seen small at Hobby Lobby, but it seems very expensive for the size of pieces they carry, and they really don't look big enough to do anything other than some word art or something (Biggest I saw was like 5"x24"). Would it be something that other big box stores like Home Depot or Menards would carry? Or maybe a lumber yard? Or am I stuck ordering online if I want bigger pieces? Also what does it generally run for a sheet?

I get mine at a local lumber yard.  There is also an unfinished furniture store near by that sells it.  Call around, it normally comes in 5' x 5' sheets.   The big box stores, like HD and Lowe's do not carry it.  Here a 5' x 5' sheet costs me $40 for 1/4", $35 for 1/8".  It varies depending on where you live.

If your local lumber yard doesn't carry it, they might special order it for you.  Be sure to specify Baltic Birch in 5x5' sheets.

I get my BB from Micheal craft store, they have anywhere from 1/16th to 1/2 inch thick and in 12x12 or 12x24 sheets for 5.99. If you go to a lumber yard true BB is on 5x5 sheets anything bigger is a birch veneered plywood, have heard other get it from sloans.

I go to micheals to get mine just for the convinence and its close by and not waiting or pay for shipping.

Hobby lobby may have it as well.
