Checked it out this morning, looked kinda cool. Thought about it for a while and figured I'd get one to try. When I went to place an order It was sold out. there's an 888 number to call to reserve one from the next batch. oops

I have never used GIMP, but in the inkscape save as popup, there is a selection to save as a gimp palette .gpl.
I don't know if this will help you.

down on the bottom right of the screen are X,Y and Z with a box with a %number (probably a low number). If the large picture is full screen when you resized it, the picture will get smaller, but the screen view stays the same. Go to the % box and increase the number to make the picture larger (I usually work between 70 and 90%). If you have a mouse with a wheel, you can hold down the ctrl key and scroll whe wheel up and down to increase/decrease the window %.
I don't use the open file button, I use import. You will still the the link or embed image screen. Choose embed.
Hope this helps

Once you get your main page setup (inches, page size, etc) save it to you desktop. then you can use that as a template to open inkscape and your settings will already be set. On my system, I had to save it as a svgz file to open in inkscape (the default svg file opens in explorer window).
