Whatcha cutting?  I would probably use a #5 unless you are cutting something on the intricate size.

Janet, I would use either a FD-UR 3 or 5, or an Olsen 5R. Maybe a 2R if your cutting tight inside cuts.

Ultra reverse?  I've been using Scroll Reverse.  'Splain the difference please.

Sheila... examples of what I cut are on my website...

I'm just trying to get the cleanest cut possible.  But then, I guess we all are!    ;) :D ;D

Your site is nice!  I use Olson 5R and they do a great job. I love your stuff! :)

Janet
the type of things you are cutting a 5 reverse F.D. or olsen mach would work just fine, might I recomend using mdf for the painted things it cuts great no grain and easy to finish if you use a sanding sealer on it first. just use good dust collestion.

Hey Janet, The scroll reverse are fine. The difference is on the UR every third tooth is facing up. It not only cleans up the bottom of the cut but the whole cut. The SR just clean up the bottom of the cut. If your looking for a cleaner cut try the Flying Dutchman UR blades.

If I used MDF, would the blade type change?

I don't think so, but the mdf will dull you blade much faster then the poplar will.

Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it.

That's strange dunk. And it seems only you have this problem.

About 10 month ago the company came out with the new FD-UR. Like someone said, it has two teeth down and one up.
The FD-SR was always my biggest seller but the UR is slowly taking over. It does not have the burr like other blades and therefore cuts more straight. Great for beginners. Some have told me that it last longer as many other blades.
An other nice thing is that the blades have a little marking on one end, telling you that it is the top or the bottom of the blade, so you don't have to look any more how the teeth are facing.

I got some of those UR blades and like them a LOT.

3/4" poplar I would also probably go with a #5.  I don't have them in UR yet because I bought a ton of them before "discovering" the UR blades.  When I run out I will buy UR.

OTOH, I have also recently been discovering the value of using the smallest size blade that will work.  I might try a #3 first and see how it goes.  If I didn't like how it was going, I would definitely fall back on the #5.

I cut a lot of 3/4 stock.  I usually use Olsen's 3, 5, or 7 Platinum reverse tooth blades.  I recently bought some flying dutchman ultra reverse tooth blades and really like them.  The difference between the reverse tooth and FDUR is that a regular reverse tooth blade (regardless of brand or quality) has a series of teeth facing upward at the bottom of the blade to clean the bottom of your cut.  The  FDUR has every 3rd tooth reversed.  They seem to be a cleaner cut and more controllable.
