Try some extra weight on the table.  I use a couple of sandbags ( the ones I use to hold down the Easy-up.  A quick and simple trick to try.

Jerry
I understand what you are saying about the eyes.  Yesterday I got a good report from my eye surgeon. Seems the ocular implant from my cataract surgery  ( 15 years ago) had started to move around. The doc actually had to stitch it in place.  This was my 7 eye surgery since 2000.  I too have prisms in my glasses but I do not have the problem you mentioned. M double vision was due to the lens slippage and it is corrected. Hopefully I will get back into the shop later this week. Like everyone we are freezing here  on the Middle Peninsula but forecast is for 60+ degrees in a few days.  Have not done anything  much in the shop since the first of Oct.  Doc cleared me to do anything I want yesterday, even daytime driving. Driving ain't-a-gonna happen for a while yet. I scare myself.   With all that I would say as for the magnifiers, I should be on a individual basis.  If possible -  try before you buy.

The wife and I invested in a digital police scanner and it goes on before the coffee in the morning and is usually the last thing off at night.  some of the calls are just unbelievable!!!!  Many times you just know some the call was made after some redneck yelled  Hey Ya'll Watch this!. Most of the first responders around here are volunteer, and my hat goes off to them!

I have to admit, I did not look very close at the picture the first time and totally missed the kids.  Rob ( or most anyone else I know would never do that).  If we were alone  and there was a bottle of fine whiskey and a bag of coins unattended- - -  well the race is on!!!!!!

The Coffee Shop / The Lawyer
« on: January 04, 2014, 04:36:34 pm »
A Charity realized that they had never received a donation from the town's most successful lawyer. The person in charge of contributions called him to persuade him to contribute. "Our research shows that out of a yearly income of at least $500,000, you did not give a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give back to the community in some way?" The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied, "First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?" Embarrassed, the caller  mumbled, "Um, no." The lawyer interrupts, "Or that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair?" The stricken caller began to stammer out an apology, but was interrupted again. "Or that my sister's husband died in a traffic accident," the lawyer's voice rising in indignation, "leaving her penniless with three children?!" The humiliated caller, completely beaten, said simply, "I had no idea." On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, "So if I don't give any money to them, why should I give any to you?"

The Coffee Shop / Re: Rolling power outages
« on: January 04, 2014, 10:32:14 am »
Here in our part of Virginia the generating capacity is  generally good.  Peak days are usually during the summer when it really hot.  Everyone cools with electricity bu not every one hears with it. Rolling outages are very rare, (can remember one in the last 30 or more years). One  thing the power companies have done is to install interrupters on electric water heaters.  The actually send a signal over the electric lines and can turn off the water heater for short periods of time. Do not have one here, but those that do have never had a problem and I think they get a small credit for allowing it to be installed.

Rolling outages make sense if you think about it.  In Extreme weather, the demand for electricity exceeds the capability of the power company's generating capacity.  Should they just leave everything as is then you get "brown outs", where the voltage and amperage drops. If this last for an extended period, it can damage appliances and electronics in your home.  If it drops low enough, the entire grid goes out.  So, rather than cause damage or lose the entire grid, they will shut down substations to keep the levels up. then next year, they ask for a price increase to build more generating power!
