The tension knob on the back of the saw turns by itself. Anyone have this problem and do you have a fix?

General Scroll Saw Talk / What thickness of wood
« on: February 14, 2012, 05:28:25 pm »
I'm going to do a fretwork piece with a lot of cutouts. I don't want to use plywood but instead I'm going to use ash. My question is pattern states to use 1/2 inch hardwood or 1/4 inch plywood, but I'm thinking of using 3/8 inch ash . Do you think that the 1/8 inch difference in thickness will add that much more strength to each cut out  hole. Thanks for any help.

I used to have a pen to sign work and lost it someplace. I don't remember what brand it was. It was great because it didn't bleed when you put finish over it. Do any of you have a pen suggestion . Thanks for any help.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Best blades in your opinion?
« on: February 03, 2012, 08:50:13 am »
I find no one company makes the best of all blades. I find depending on the size that one company may be better than the other companies in that one size. Mostly use FD and Olson.

My personal option is that plywood looks cheap. On a project of that sort I would use real wood for the fretwork. I have made several smaller clocks and use real hardwood. What ever way you go best of luck with it, it likes like a great project.

I would take saw back to where you purchased from. You should not have these problems on a new saw,

General Scroll Saw Talk / Make t-knob into round knob
« on: March 15, 2011, 06:49:51 pm »
f you have a knob like on the DeWalt and Excalibur you can take a small round tube like i piece off a medicine bottle and cast a round knob. You can get casting resin at hobby stores. A round knob is a lot easier to use. After market round knobs are costly. Just cut a small length of the tube, use car wax with carnuba wax in it as a release agent. Then hot glue it to a piece of plexiglass and put knob in it and pour resin just to cover black knob. Also you can grind knob down on both ends if you want a smaller round knob.

Is anyone having trouble with the top blade holder? Holder slipping on blade be4fore or during cutting? I've done all the possible stuff to try to correct this and nothing works. Talked with Ray of Seyco and done all the things he said to do. Just wondering if any one else has a blade holder problem.
