General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Owners of a DeWalt I have a question?

Hi WildBill -

The only saw I have ever owned is a 788.  I assumed that the sawdust would get all over you on any brand.  I am going to set up a box fan like Marshall is talking about and see how it works.  Thanks for asking the question.

Hi Woody -

In my experience, the best thing to do is ask your kids for help :)  I don't ask my grandkids for two reasons, first I have my pride and second they are only two years old.  It will probably be at least three years before they know more than I do about computers.

Seriously, Steve has a way of explaining things really well.  I am looking forward to his tutorial.

Copyrights are a big thing.  If you are going to make items and give them as presents, it is usually no problem.  But if you go to sell those same items you can run into a lot grief.

Football and Basketball items sell great and that is why the images are so closely guarded by the respective schools.

I mainly use a spray lacquer.  It is easy too get (I usually go to Walmart) and I like that it dries so quickly.  I haven't tried the Krylon spray, that you recommended Steve, as of yet.  It is definitly less expensive and I like that.  I appreciate you trying products and sharing with us so we know what is worth getting.

Here's my two cents, worth just what it costs you.

I also have a 788 and love it.  I use the EZ Lift and like it.  You definitly need something, it is too awkward to hold the saw up with one hand and feed with the other.  As far as tightening the bolt.  Anything mechanical that you tighten to hold a weight is going to increase wear and wear it out quicker.  I say go with something that takes the weight off (block, bungee or EZ lift) and keep scrolling!

Hello I am Barry -

Steve's site was where I first learned about scrolling.  I was looking for a hobby that I could do when I retired.  Scrolling fit the bill and I bought a Dewalt and started about 16 months ago.  Thanks Steve for starting this new forum I know it is going to be a success and one more place for scrollers to turn to and share their experience.

I live in Southwest Virginia and look forward to being a part of this forum.

PS: I still haven't retired.
