Ask Steve a question. / Steve - todays tip (May 17) is a good one.
« on: May 17, 2013, 02:42:19 pm »
CA glue is the best for fretwork repairs.  I work part-time at my local Woodcraft store.  When I sell CA glue I always recommend the customer consider buying the debonder.  It is real easy to glue your fingers to the piece you are fixing or glue your fingers together.  The debonder, when used as directed, can save you a lot of time and pain.

You do a great job Steve.  I love your web site and I recommend it to everyone who comes into the store asking about scrolling.

Amazing work Gadois.  They are all great, but that truck looks like you could jump in and drive off.  Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear about all your troubles.  I have owned a Dewalt for about six years and I am very happy with it.  I plan one day to move up to an EX-21.

If you can afford it, I would go with the Excalibur (EX-21).  If not the Dewalt (DW788) would be my next choice.

Sheila makes a great point.  Get a saw from someone who stands behind their product.  It seems Ray from Seyco, has earned a good reputation for being there when problems arise.  I always try to buy the best I can afford from a quality retailer no matter what I am purchasing.  Good luck.

I consider the lift arm and the foot pedal to be, just about, must have accessories.

Pattern Requests. / Looking for layered puzzle pattern
« on: March 26, 2013, 07:15:12 pm »
I have made this pattern for a long time.  It came from a past issue of SSWC or Creative Woodworks &Crafts.  The pattern is a four layer children's puzzle, the bottom layer is a pig and the top has a cow, horse and goat.  I have looked all through my old mags and can't find it.  Does anyone know what issue this pattern came from or a place that sells these patterns (layered puzzles) on line.

I have some of the puzzles I have done, so I can trace around the pieces.  I was hoping I am just over looking the magazine and can copy it the easy way.

This is an in store sale price as well.  If you have a Woodcraft store close by you could pick the saw up and not have the shipping cost.  I don't know if that is practical, or not, it certainly won't help Jimbo.  The Dewalt is a great saw.

Mineral spirits takes off the pattern and any residue.

I enjoyed following your first clock build.  I hope to start one of the Bowyer clocks in the spring.  Am looking forward to watching this one come together, thanks for sharing your progress.

I used your formula 50-50 BLO/mineral spirits today.  I am hoping to speed up my process for finishing projects.  Do you think 24 hrs is enough time to wait before top coat?  I have been using Danish Oil and that takes days.

Pattern Requests. / Re: Looking for pattern. Can anyone help me?

Hi Johnny - I have a cousin who is a retired firefighter.  I made him a cross from Sue Mey that he really liked.  Her website is www.scrollsawartist.com.  She has a number of crosses for different occupations and if you don't like the cross patterns she makes them in a plaque form as well.  Good luck.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Thanks - Mike's Workshop
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:13:55 pm »
I have been really busy making Christmas presents and projects this past couple of weeks.  I did not realize I was getting so short of blades.  I contacted www.mikesworkshop.com and ordered my blades.  Mike fills my order and puts them in the mail that same day.  My blades were delivered today and I never had to stop scrolling.

If anyone wants really good scrollsaw blades (Flying Dutchmen) and great service, you need to order from Mike.  Thank you Mike.
