2nd Cut Dachshund

Good Day Folks!

Here is my 2nd attempt, it was a puzzle pattern, but decided just to make it has an outline.  This one will go to my boys, lady friend, they have a Dachshund. I am still having trouble making the turns, but I feel I am making progress.  I just used lemon oil for the finish.

very nice job. i have found that going very slow with turns and corners work for me (then again there are days when nothing works).

Try using a finger as a pivot point and turning with the other hand.  Just stablize your piece holding down with one finger and no forward movement then "spin" your piece at the pivot point.  Maybe someone can explain it a little better but it works.

Julie, You explained it it perfectly. Thats what I teach my students.

Julie you sure did but I still cant do it, I use both hands to turn , habit I suppose

Jimbo,  If you still use both hands ( which I catch myself doing)  do you ever have problems with your puzzles not fitting quite right.  If I don't use my pivot finger, I tend to push or bend the blade in the tight corners on my puzzles and have to do a bit of filing to get them to slide either way.

I still have trouble with turns often enough myself.  Mostly in knowing when to stop.  Then also, sometimes I get so focused on stopping the blade's forward progress, I actually move it backwards a little!  Doh!  The people I give my work to don't seem to notice though and I just tell myself everything I do is more practice.  I still learn something almost every new project.
