scrollsaw blade saves the day!
« on: October 14, 2010, 08:18:37 am »
I got a phone call early this morning from my daughter.  Her husband had just broken his key off in the ignition.  He was parked behind her so no one was going anywhere.  He is in the Air Force and was going to work this morning when it happened at 5:00 am New Mexico time.  I thought about it for a while and called him back.  Told him to cut a scrollsaw blade to where the teeth were at the very end.  Took a paper clip to move the pins out of the way and insert the scrollsaw blade alongside the key piece.  Twist the blade to get a bite and yee-haw out it came.
Bet she's glad I gave him my old scrollsaw!

Your Son in Law has one crafty Mother in Law!   Fast thinking on your part... of course I now wonder if you have a dubious past :)

Single mother for 21 years.  Necessity is the mother of invention.  Could not afford to pay people to fix things - had to learn on my own.

Julie!
What a stroke of "Pragmatic Engineering"!

Now I can see a Commercial Use for 'old' blades...
1. Break blade to 2.5" length
2. Tape to back of your business card
3. Add small label with your instructions
4. Display on table at Craft Fair or Market
5. Price at $1.00 each
6. Make Money
7. IF idea goes over Rush Patent Application

I guess that makes me 'suspect'...

As a former rental property owner and general handyman I have carried a set of lock picks in my toolbox for many years!
As long as they are not too sophisticated I can usually open them in a few minutes.
Saved a lot of money on locksmiths over the years.
OH! I forgot the 'slim jim' that used to open most cars but not no more! (one of my tenants was a toe truck driver for the city!)

Breaking News:
Single mother for 21 years turns to a life of crime, Grand Theft Auto. Hear her story of how she invented a new tool to break in cars from a scroll saw blade. In her own words "had to learn on my own." And how she has recruited her daughter and son-in-law to spread the crime spree from Texas to New Mexico.
More details on the 11:00 evening news. LOL  ::)  ::)  ::)

OK, Jim - ZERO cars IN my garage - I even threw out my husbands motorcycle.  Don't Bit** about saw dust on the bike.  My shop - my rules!  (Don't be harsh - I bought him a cover).
Russ,  I can also rekey a house lock in under a minute.  That comes from 5 years at the Depot.

Great thinking Julie. See scrollsaw blades are good for more than making sawdust.
